Fizzy Juice Experiment

P6/7 have been learning about how media affects food sales. Xander commented that some fizzy juices can clean coins. From this we decided to set up a class experiment. We put a couple of dirty coppers into a bottle of fizzy juice in the morning and when they took them out at the end of the day they were sparkling!! Look at the results….

Our Week in P6/7

P6/7 enjoyed watching Andy and Wendy tell us all about Robert Burns.

“We particularly liked acting out Tam O Shanter.”   Andrew

Two people from each class were selected this week to recite a Scots poem at Burns Day Assembly. Xander and Jonathon did us proud!

“It was nerve racking but we did well!” Xander

We have a new class novel linked to our World War Two topic. It’s called Billy the Kid by Michael Morpurgo. We used our class voting station to vote for this book.

“It was sad at the beginning but it’s really good.” Gary

We learned how to do sudoku this week in Maths.

“I struggled at first but then I got the hang of it.” Calan

We have also been multiplying and dividing decimals in Maths.

“It was confusing at the start but now I get it.” Emma.P

We created a timeline of the events leading up to the start of WW2. We are also keeping a floorbook of our journey through the topic.

“It took us a while to make notes about all the facts but once we had them all it was easy to sort out the order.” Findlay

What creative teachers we have at Bankton

Written by Xander, P6

This week the P6s went to Bubble Gum and Fluff and made tile pictures. You could make a candle, a present or a stable design. We had great fun!

079

We also had a medal winner this week! Gary won a rosette for an amazing piece of artwork at his old school. He received it in the post. There was great excitement!

In Science we made a rock cycle out of starbursts. First we chopped the starburst into tiny pieces then stuck them all back together. Then we put it in a bag and flattened it in the bag and melted it.

077

We have been learning about fractions in Maths. Some of us made fraction animals, here’s a picture of one.

080

We also had generational learning Number Talks homework. We all thought it was fun to do to see how our families work out sums in their head. The results were all different!

We played a game called Blooms Balloons today in our reading groups. We had to catch a balloon and ask the type of Blooms question written on it

We have been practising hard to learn all the words for our carol service and our sing-a-long on Wednesday afternoon. P6/7 are singing All I Want for Christmas. We filmed us in action and have entered a competition with other schools in West Lothian. The video with the most views wins!! We will find out on Wednesday if we have won!

P6/7 wishes you all a nice Christmas!

P6/7 Visit Bibleworld

This post was written by Erin and Abbie in P6/7

img_2988 On Friday we went to Bible world and we did a lot of fun things. There was an aeroplane section where we sat in aeroplane seats and there was a screen in front of us . We had to fill in the blank spaces by finding the answers from the short films we watched.

There was also a music section, library section and an old printing press where we had to twist the handles to press the ink onto the paper.

Today we had a PATPAL session in p6/7. There were lots of different activities such as bank statements, a shop and an interior designer task. We invited parents to see what we have been learning about money. We also had a comment board to see what parents thought of our learning. We all greatly appreciate you coming to see us. We all think that we all did very well.

“Thank you all very much for coming to our PAT PAL morning. Everybody in P6/7 says thank you for coming and hope you had fun.”     Andrew Hunter

We Are All Unique!

Written by Andrew and Jonathan, P6/7 056

We have been doing negative numbers in maths. Some people were working with Mrs Riley to do 055mental maths games and some were playing games on the smartboard.

We also got a reading chart home and when you read a book you mark it down on the day you read something then you need to write down your favourite book, then if you hand it in you get 10 dojo points.

Today we had very special visitors to  talk to us about how we are all unique. They gave us potatoes and we had to write a life story and give the potato a name, then we got to decorate it. It was very funny! Then we had to try and identify our potato.065
