We have really enjoyed our reading sessions over the past few weeks. The children have got much better at choosing suitable books and have tried really hard to persevere and sound out tricky words. They enjoyed reading different types of books…but the Oxford Reading Tree stories were still a firm favourite! The P1 pupils loved having the chance to spend time reading with their buddies. They were very patient and supportive. A huge thank you to our volunteers who came in each week to help us. You were a great help and we appreciate it! Happy holidays and….keep on reading!
Today, we were a little nervous but there was also a lot of excitement as the time for our performance neared! P1/2 put on a brilliant show which included acting out The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark, talking about our own experiences of the dark, showing photos of our own constellation shapes and singing and playing Twinkle Twinkle Little Star. They ALL performed brilliantly! We missed having Kirsty and Peter with us though. The class have done so well considering some have missed rehearsals due to illness and others have had to change role at the last minute, or take on extra lines. Thank you to our families for helping at home and coming to support us on the day. It means so much to the children and us! Here are a few snaps from our afternoon!
Today we have been learning about constellations. We listened to the story of Orion the Hunter and went outside to try and make our own Orions using shells and chalk on the playground.
However, it was a bit too windy today and some shells (and our paper copies of the constellation) were blowing away! Well done P1/2 for having a go and working well with friend to make Orion!
Each week, when we do our handwriting lessons, we ask all the children to look carefully at their work and decide how well they felt they achieved what was being asked of them. This week, P2 worked together to check over the work completed by one of their peers. This made them work with great care from the outset! They looked at it together and spoke about what was good about the piece and picked out their best effort! They then picked out a few letters that could be improved and, most importantly, said why and how this could be better. They were very complimentary of each other and yet could identify sensible ways to improve! Good work P2.
We made aliens today for our soft start activity. Later on we described them to a friend to see if they could draw the aliens without seeing them first. They only had our descriptions to go by! It was quite tricky but everyone did so well!
We were all very proud of the children who managed to fit the blocks back in the box at tidy up time (except for a few shapes that simply couldn’t fit in!) Well done everyone!
While looking through iPad photos, I found the two photos below, taken by Mrs Henderson on Art day. They made me instantly smile and feel proud of our P1/2 pupils and how kind and supportive of one another they are! Keep looking out for each other P1/2!!
We had our second transition day yesterday with the boys and girls from the Early Years. After sharing what we were looking forward to doing next year we spent time getting to know each other in the various play areas in the classroom. After play time we ventured outdoors to our “forest” where we played some movement games and worked with a friend to find different coloured things in and around the trees. The trees continue to grow well, creating a super space for us to play and learn.
We have been learning how to use information books to find out about our Seashore topic. We now know how to use a Contents page, an Index and a Glossary too!
On Tuesday 5th June P1/2 visited the beach down from the school to explore the rockpools as part of their Seashore Topic. Mr Rose helped us to find lots of interesting creatures lurking in the seaweed! Everyone LOVED seeing the hermit crab swapping its shell!
