We hope you have all received your invitation for our learner led event which will take place next Tuesday evening between 6pm and 8pm. The children are keen to show you around the class and share what they have been working on. Look out for their pupil self evaluation sheets which has a section for you, their parent/carer, to comment on too. We look forward to seeing you!
What a beautiful afternoon for our beach clean! It was a big task again this year and today, we just concentrated on picking up as much plastic as we could find. P1/2 worked hard and did a super job! Thank you to the parents who joined in too. Many hands make light work!
Your child has brought home their £1 World Book Day token that can be used at the Shetland Times Bookshop or used to buy a book from our next Book Club magazine.
The children were also given home a “Share a Story” sheet that suggests lots of fun ways to encourage reading at home. Please share any successes with us…we’d love to hear about your reading journeys! Some achievements have already been celebrated on the Shetland Library Facebook page!
There are lots of reading ideas on the World Book Day website. Please see the link below. Happy reading P1/2!
We have made it to the last day of term! Today we have enjoyed listening to Christmas stories in the Library and have caught up on Topic work that was delayed due to our days off with Storm Caroline. We have enjoyed playing Jingle Bells on instruments in Music time and listened to the older pupils perform for us in the afternoon. Sadly, lots of pupils have been absent today so were not here to receive their gifts, cards and decorations. They will be waiting for you in the new term.
We would like to take the chance to wish all the children and their families, a merry Christmas and a happy new year!!🎅🏻
As part of our Topic homework, we had to collect samples of lots of different textures.
While some were in the Library, others worked on their touch activity.
Good work Arthur! We wrote the words and sorted the textures to match.
Kate brought in some Braille for her “bumpy” example. Jessica’s examples were all different.
Well done to Alexander who has completed his First Minister’s Reading Passport booklet. He has read lots of story books and factual books. He has drawn his favourite parts and has written about what he has learned. He has also recommended stories for his friends. 😀
Alexander’s favourite page in his passport.
Mrs Smith likes that you have recommended this book to a friend!
P1/2 were excited to prepare for advent by helping to create our Kindness Wreath. Each day, we read out a different act of kindness that it is hoped they will try to carry out at school. Please see your child’s diary for suggested acts of kindness that they could do at home during the weekends too! As well as our class wreath, each child received a note home asking them to contribute to our Food Bank on a given day. We are very grateful to you for supporting us with this.
Jessie and Innes painted the wreath.
Our Soft Start activity was to cut, roll and glue our wreath.
We had to cut out red berries and number them.
It was a tricky job to roll the paper and glue it down.
Kate was the first to add to our Food Bank Box.
No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

A big well done to Alexander who has been busy at home drawing around his body and adding in all the important parts he has been learning about in school! Not only did he write out the words in English, he also wrote them in Polish too! We are delighted Alexander brought this in to share with us. 😊
We love to hear how you are getting on with your learning out with the school too. We were delighted to be sent these photos of Georgia enjoying doing her capacity homework outside in the fresh air. Keep up the good work Georgia!
What a super sports day! Primary 1/2 were so well behaved all day and waited very patiently for their turn to run. When it came to their events, everybody joined in and gave everything they had! I am so proud of all your achievements and Mrs Henderson would be too! Thank you to all those who came to support us throughout the day and cheer us on. We’ll all sleep tonight!
Well done to P1/2 this morning! You all performed brilliantly and should be so proud of yourselves! Thank you to our super audience for so willingly joining in. Thanks to our friends and families for helping us prepare at home and for supporting us on the day. Thanks to John and Mrs Inkster too. Can we do it all again?
Waiting patiently for it all to start!
Christina, Iona and Lorelei welcome everyone using sign language.
We told everyone about what bucket filling and bucket dipping is and how it makes us feel.
Roma helped Mrs Smith to hand out all our buckets so we could test how well our audience could recognise bucket filling or dipping.
Our audience was keen to join in.
Children are left out…ask them to join in!
A bucket dipping sketch about not letting others join in.
Leighton asks if he can play. It’s in time – Iona and Elijah say he can play next time.
We want to be a bucket filling school!
Anders and Isla knew how to include others in their game.
Hurtful words = Bucket Dipping
We don’t want bucket dipping in the canteen either.
Well done Ryan, confidently introducing our A-Z.
We signed each letter before saying our bucket filling ideas.
We sang and signed a beautiful song all about how we can make a difference every day.
