Primary 1 had to work together to build a chimney for Santa to go down. The elves were unsure what that was so Primary 1 showed them.

The Glasgow Science Centre came to visit our school today. We learned lots about our bodies and how they work. There were experiments and puzzles to try. It was great fun!
Last week after the Christmas Lunch, Primary 2 were lucky enough to have some time with the JRSOs. They came down to play some games with us and we had a great time.
We are delighted to be back at school and have had a busy two weeks settling in. We are all doing a great job and coping very well with all the new routines and things in class. The children are exploring and learning through play for lots of different things. Here are some photos showing what we have been doing. We are working with others and building on team work.
We have finally got our playroom up and running. Here are some photos from our first trip.

We had a week where we read about The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. We read The Gruffalo’s Child too. We also heard them in Shetland Dialect. That was very interesting as there were some words we had never heard before!
After that we went out foraging for ingredients to make some Gruffalo recipes. Here are photos of us doing that. We had great fun and used great language and role play used in our cooking and searching.
Play is a really important part of our P1/2 class. The children have free choice during Task time to learn through their play. Play opportunities provided in our class often relate to the learning taking place that week or developing a specific skill but also takes account of their interests. Play opportunities are changed regularly, with some activities being left out longer if they prove popular! We are encouraging the children to suggest what they would like to play with so we can cater for their interests. Have a look at the play activities set out for this coming week…
