We were wowed again this week with the 2nd group of children sharing what they were proud of.
Ruby is proud of her singing and sang a beautiful song for us. She later told me that she was also proud of her writing and showed me some lovely work in her little notebook.
Freya was proud of the scarf she had made for her new toy and Peter brought in some super photos and a map to tell us all about how proud he was of his climb up Bennachie in Aberdeenshire.
Honey brought in a lovely picture that she made of a chameleon using her blow pens. It prompted some super questions from P1/2, asking what a chameleon was and where you would find them.
Andrew brought in a trophy that he won at the Dunrossness Flower Show. Well done Andrew!

We had our dress rehearsal this morning and are delighted to be getting a chance to show you our performance of “Stick Man” tonight…finally! Children are to be back at school for 6pm tonight to get ready. Enjoy the show!

It would be great if you were able to help keep a simple record of what the moon looks like each night. A simple recording sheet will be sent home this weekend.

We have been busy in P1 learning how to put sounds together to build words. It’s great fun trying new ways to do this. Andrew and Logan were listening to rhyming words too which is an important part of learning how to read and write.
It was good fun using the magnetic wands to fish out the letters needed to make simple words.
Andrew had to put a peg on the rhyming picture.

This term we are using themes to help us focus more during Show and Tell sessions. The first theme is ‘Something I am proud of’. Each week a different group of children will take their turn. This week it was Jasmin, Innes, Jessica, Arthur and Alexander G to share something they are proud of.
Jasmin told us how proud she was of her Granny and Grandad. She had photos to share with us and told us all about what she was doing in each one. I was so busy enjoying listening to Jasmin that I completely forgot to get any photos of her! We all enjoyed hearing about what she gets up to with her Granny and Grandad and why she is so proud of them. Well done Jasmin!
We are so sorry to hear that some of you are ill and we are disappointed that we won’t see you all before Christmas now. Mrs Henderson and I wish all those who are poorly, a very speedy recovery and we hope that you and your families manage to have a happy and restful (yet fun-filled) holiday! Any cards and crafts made will be sent home in the new year along with a little gift from us. Merry Christmas!!
While looking through iPad photos, I found the two photos below, taken by Mrs Henderson on Art day. They made me instantly smile and feel proud of our P1/2 pupils and how kind and supportive of one another they are! Keep looking out for each other P1/2!!
P1/2 had a busy day this Friday. We are all enjoying opening up our class advent calendar and seeing what tree decoration is waiting inside for us to add to our class tree. Thanks too, for all the lovely donations to our alternative advent calendar!
Friday saw our first visit to the Sandwick Pool. All children thoroughly enjoyed their time swimming and they all performed well. Really good effort drying and changing from the little ones too!
The afternoon saw us catching up with some of our usual Friday activities and because we were all quite tired from our play rehearsals and our morning out of school, we all enjoyed some craft time and time to play with friends during our Task time.
On Wednesday 28th November, Kirsty’s Dad came to visit our class to talk about his job as a retained fireman. He brought in lots of things to show us and we leanred about the importance of his job in our local community. P1/2 asked him LOTS of questions and we all had fun trying on some of his firefighter gear! The oxygen tank was VERY heavy!
Thank you to everyone who sent in information about their job in the local community too, the children have discovered the wide range of services in our local area and the importance of each one.
There was a lot of excitement in P1/2 on Tuesday when we discovered that Alexander was a runner up in the Name a Gritter competition, which was open to all schools throughout Shetland. He entered the name Snow Boss and joined 5 winners and 4 other runners up from around Shetland at a presentation at Nesting Primary on Monday afternoon.
Look at all of the things he won! He also won a sledge, but it was a little too big to bring into school!
Well done Alexander!
