Three P1/2 pupils had their shield designs printed and used to decorate our galley! Well done Kirsty, Jasmin and Honey. They look great!

SMUHA….nearly there!
We donned our Viking helmets and shields to get our photo taken with the P7 galley, named Ocean Raider, before it meets its fiery end tomorrow! Well done to Mrs Henderson and our support staff for helping to get everyone ready!
Thursday Activities
Today saw P1/2 involved in lots more Viking activities! In the morning we listened to Stephen Renwick talk to us about Viking life. He told us about Viking clothing, weapons, money and trading and answered lots of our questions. P1/2 listened so well and answered questions really sensibly.
Then we went to see Esther Renwick who is an archaeologist. She talked to us about her job and told us about how we “know” about the Vikings. She showed as a pretend excavation site and how when you go down through the layers, you may come across things from the past, going further back in time the lower you dig.
In the afternoon, we talked about Viking runes and practised writing our names as we would have done years ago. P1/2 did this with ease! We wrote our names on foil and made Viking type pendants.
P2 Peer Assessment
Each week, when we do our handwriting lessons, we ask all the children to look carefully at their work and decide how well they felt they achieved what was being asked of them. This week, P2 worked together to check over the work completed by one of their peers. This made them work with great care from the outset! They looked at it together and spoke about what was good about the piece and picked out their best effort! They then picked out a few letters that could be improved and, most importantly, said why and how this could be better. They were very complimentary of each other and yet could identify sensible ways to improve! Good work P2.
Music with Mrs Inkster
I was delighted to be called through to hear P1/2 sing, “Twinkle Twinkle Little Star” and see them accompany the song using the bells. It took lots of concentration to follow the notes on the board and play the right note, at the right time! Mrs Inkster and I were so proud of everyone today!
Starting the Day
This morning, we started the day by adding watercolour paint on to our wax resist, night time sky. Our pictures will accompany writing we’ll do based on the story, “The Owl Who Was Afraid Of The Dark.” Everybody thoroughly enjoyed seeing the magical stars appear through the paint. Somebody even said, “I wish we could start everyday like this!” We look forward to experimenting with more colours as we finish our owl painting.
It’s Show Day!
We had our dress rehearsal this morning and are delighted to be getting a chance to show you our performance of “Stick Man” tonight…finally! Children are to be back at school for 6pm tonight to get ready. Enjoy the show!
Merry Christmas P1/2!
We are so sorry to hear that some of you are ill and we are disappointed that we won’t see you all before Christmas now. Mrs Henderson and I wish all those who are poorly, a very speedy recovery and we hope that you and your families manage to have a happy and restful (yet fun-filled) holiday! Any cards and crafts made will be sent home in the new year along with a little gift from us. Merry Christmas!!
Team Work!
While looking through iPad photos, I found the two photos below, taken by Mrs Henderson on Art day. They made me instantly smile and feel proud of our P1/2 pupils and how kind and supportive of one another they are! Keep looking out for each other P1/2!!
Friday 7th December
P1/2 had a busy day this Friday. We are all enjoying opening up our class advent calendar and seeing what tree decoration is waiting inside for us to add to our class tree. Thanks too, for all the lovely donations to our alternative advent calendar!
Friday saw our first visit to the Sandwick Pool. All children thoroughly enjoyed their time swimming and they all performed well. Really good effort drying and changing from the little ones too!
The afternoon saw us catching up with some of our usual Friday activities and because we were all quite tired from our play rehearsals and our morning out of school, we all enjoyed some craft time and time to play with friends during our Task time.
