PE Term 2 Gymnastics Week 1 and 2

This term, all pupils will be taking part in gymnastics, starting with mat skills and progressing to apparatus work. Gymnastics is a fantastic way for children to develop confidence, coordination, and strength while working at their own level.

Mat Skills Focus:

  • Balances
  • Jumps
  • Rolls
  • Handstands
  • Cartwheels

Apparatus Focus:

  • Pupils will explore different equipment setups
  • They’ll be encouraged to create their own ways of moving from one side to the other

This approach supports creativity, problem-solving, and physical literacy.

Everybody loves this term in the gym, so I’m sure their will be plenty to talk about when they get home.

PE Reminder

Please ensure pupils:

  • Come dressed appropriately on PE days
  • Have appropriate footwear.  Now that the weather is changing, footwear can be changed before PE.
  • Have hair tied up
  • Remove jewellery and watches before the session

Week 2 – Balances, rolls and bunny hops

⚽🏉 PE Focus This Term: Football & Rugby Skills

This term, our PE lessons have centred around developing Gross and Fine Motor Skills through football and rugby. Pupils began with football, practising key techniques such as passing and dribbling.

Over the past three weeks, we’ve shifted our focus to rugby, where pupils have been learning essential skills like carrying the ball, moving away from defenders and passing.

In Primary 1, our focus was on developing the fundamental skills needed for football and rugby. This included running, stopping, starting, changing direction, using space safely, spatial awareness, listening, following instructions, responding to cues, and handling equipment with control. We also introduced moving with the ball and passing, alongside other activities using different equipment to build coordination and confidence.

The class have settled in nicely and are slowly growing in confidence when working with games equipment.
