RAF 100

We are thrilled to be involved in supporting the RAF celebrate their centenary.

One of the most exciting events taking place is the RAF100 Baton Relay which sees a specially designed baton visit 100 sites associated with the RAF in 100 days.  As part of this relay the baton will travel to RAF Saxa Vord in a Typhoon fast jet from Lossiemouth  this afternoon.

To make the event even more symbolic the jet will carry out a low-level jet flypast over Bell’s Brae Primary School this afternoon at approximately 2.15pm.   Squadron Leader Daniela Nowalski has been co-ordinating this event with staff at the school and will visit the school this afternoon with a replica baton.

Working with the RAF’s partner the Big Ideas Company we have received resources to support their ‘Remember RAF100 Project’ and involve our learners in this celebration.

Primary Netball League

Huge well done to the Tirricks netball team for getting in to the finals of the Primary Netball League.  They competed today against Dunrossness and then Scalloway to end in third place.

The league has been running over the winter with an impressive 16 teams taking part.

The netball players all showed great commitment, teamwork and sportsmanship.  Big thanks to Active Schools staff, the school coaches  – Leah Henry, Louise Birnie and Anne Wood and to all the parents/careers who kindly transported the players to locations throughout Shetland and who supported them during their games.

Breakfast and Study Club

Breakfast Club – Monday and Wednesday 0830 – 0855

We would like to remind you about our breakfast club which is available to pupils from 0830 every Monday and Wednesday and offers a cold drink, cereals and toast.  It is lovely to see the children, who attend, taking responsibility for getting their breakfast and enjoying each other’s company over breakfast.  Attendance at this ensures that the children are in school on time and have enjoyed a breakfast. This ensures that they can focus fully on their work in class.

Study Club – Tuesday and Thursday 1500 – 1545

Our Study Club is a quiet place after school for children to complete homework, read, play board games and any other quiet relaxing activity they wish to take part in.

Parents/cares must book their child(ren) in to the study club at least a day in advance – this is to ensure that we have adequate staffing in place.  Any pupil who attends without a booking may be unable to attend and have to be collected from school due to us not having appropriate staffing in place.  Parents/carers are also reminded to collect their children promptly. Bookings should be made through the school office.

Victorian Day

This term Primary 6 have been learning all about Victorians, and we recently held our annual “Victorian Day”, where children are given the experience of what life was like for pupils during Queen Victoria’s reign.  The pupils and staff were dressed appropriately and everyone contributed to a memorable day!  We would like to express our huge thanks to Miss Swanson, who provided costumes for the day and visited both classes for a lesson in the afternoon.

(We’ve made the photos look old-fashioned to be more authentic!)
