New School Session

Welcome back to everyone for the start of another school year.

What a lovely start to the term we have had.  All our new pupils have settled in so well and it has been lovely to hear all their holiday news.

Apologies for all the letters at the start of term but we want to keep you informed and share information with you.   All our letters can be found under the parent section of the website.

As always please get in touch with a member of school staff if you have any questions or queries.

Recreational Badminton P5-7

Active Schools, along with parent volunteer and club coach Zoe Anderson, have arranged to run Recreational Badminton sessions for pupils of all abilities after school on Mondays for P5, P6 & P7 pupils.

As before, we would be help needed from parents to ensure the sessions can run smoothly. For parent helpers, no badminton skills or experience is necessary, just a willingness to work with children, and to give up some time. The more parents that come on board, the less commitment would be required and you would always be volunteering alongside another adult.

The sessions will be held in Anderson High School Games Hall and there are 2 sessions to choose from. The first session will run from 4pm to 5pm and the second will run from 5pm to 6pm on the following dates:

Monday 28th August – Monday 25th September (inc)

There will be 25 spaces available at each session, which will be allocated on a first come first served basis. If your child is interested please contact me on sanna.aitken@shetland.gov.uk or by calling 744052 before Friday 25th August.

If you are interested in helping at these sessions please let me know in your e-mail or phone call.

Your child should wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring some water. Equipment will be provided.

Please ensure that your child knows about arrangements for getting to the Anderson High School and getting home.

Any questions please don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Punctuality Statement

We are writing to inform you of our School’s punctuality statement.

Over the past few years we have seen an increase in the number of pupils arriving after 0900 in the morning.  One day we had 22 pupils arriving late for school.

We are really keen to work with parents/carers to see this improve and have therefore developed, with support from the Parent Council, the attached statement and letters .

Junior Table Tennis League

We are a newly formed table tennis club based in Sandwick and are looking to promote and encourage interest in the sport Shetland wide. Our particular aim is to target grass roots level. We are proposing to start a new Shetland Under 13 table tennis league which would be played at Sandwick Junior High School on a Saturday morning between 11am and 1pm. The teams will consist of 3 players playing 3 games and a game of doubles to finish. This will make a total of 10 games / match and reserves can be drafted in if you have a call off. The league will start in mid September with half the matches played before Christmas and the other half after. Dates will be provided once we have an indication of the numbers of teams interested. The season will finish with an individual tournament for all players involved.

  • There will be a minimal charge of £1/player per match to cover costs.

If you would like to enter a team or have any questions regarding the league please contact Andy Crawford or Joan Smith on 01950 431 319 or  07885 422 475
