Eco Committee

Bell’s Brae Eco Committee plays an important part in the life of the school. The Committee considers environmental issues and the impact on their lives and communities and reflect on how they can play a part in making a positive change. Pupils develop awareness of local and global issues, citizenship, team work skills, effective communication and problem solving. A representative from each class between P2 and 7 is elected to the Eco Committee. Pupils are encouraged to pass on ideas or comments to their class representative so everyone  contributes to decisions.  Representatives inform their own class of the committee’s  goals and initiatives and ask them what they think.

This year’s committee are clear about what is important to them and proud of what they have achieved;

“We have an Eco Committee so that we can help to make the world a greener place. It is important to try and make the school safer and healthier for our own good. We do our best to make sure that our school helps to make the environment clean. We also recycle and promote healthy eating.

This year we have encouraged everyone to have a healthy snack without wrapping on Wednesdays from our “Wrapping be gone, Healthy Come On” campaign. We did a survey of everyone in the school and found out about how many of us bring snack with plastic wrapping. We found out about how long plastic wrapping takes to rot away and were quite surprised at how long it took so we did an assembly to tell everyone about it. We made posters and sent a note home so parents knew about our campaign.

We made leaflets with ideas for recycled Christmas crafts and emailed them to all the teachers in the school to give them some ideas for using recycled materials for craft.

We cleaned up rubbish and wrapping at Hayfield Park for the Voar Redd Up.

Mrs Rose and Mrs Wagstaff help us make decisions when we need them and type up minutes of our meetings. “
