As many of you are having problems accessing the Week 2 learning resources on Teams I have uploaded them here for you.
P7 have been lucky enough to have Emma Chittick in for three sessions delivering STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) activities. During her visits the pupils had the opportunity to program Lego robots and create wind turbines and solar cells. This related very well with our Climate Change topic and they all became very competitive to see who could get the biggest output from their design!
This afternoon P7 had a visit from Patricia Keppie who works for the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission are responsible for maintaining the war graves and cemeteries in this country and abroad. The pupils were very interested in the topic and it built on previous learning from our WW2 topic.
We have had a fantastic four days doing many activities and experiencing new things. We topped of our activities week today with a trip to Aa Fired Up to paint mugs, had a feast of a lunch at Magno’s Cafe and then watch the Secret Life of Pets 2 at Mareel.
Today in P7S we took part in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Maths) challenge relating to our class novel ‘Holes’ by Louis Sachar.
In groups, we had to design and create a free standing hammock out of junk and craft materials which would hold a duplo character. We also tested them to failure to see how much weight they would hold – the winner could hold a staggering 750kg!
Both Mr Sandison and myself have been blown away by all of the efforts the primary seven classes have put into the Titanic homework tasks they were given this term. We have seen everything from models, fact sheets, cooked meals, menus, boarding passes, diary entries, clothes designs and lots more! A big well done to all of the pupils in P7 and a thank you to all of the parents/carers for their efforts and collaboration with this too.
Primary six and seven enjoyed a performance called ‘The Journey’ by the Baldy Bane Theatre company this morning. The performance was ‘forum theatre’ which meant that the pupils were able to particiapte throughout the play and were invited to make certain decisions to determine the outcome of the scenes. The key messages of the play were all about road safety. The pupils shared a lot of great knowledge to ensure a safe outcome for all of the characters in the play.
