Homework

This week is maths week! Our homework is maths themed!

Problem solving!

We have been working on our problem solving. We are using RACE CAR to help us

Read the question

ASK – what is it asking me?

Choose how to do it

Experiment.

Check my answer

ANSWER – record your answer

Report your answer.

Here is a problem to solve – use RACECAR to help you! Remember that if you can’t work out the answer, have a guess and check it.

Language

For maths week, choose a maths word and create an acrostic poem (a poem where each letter in the words is the start of a sentence about the word)

You could choose one of these words, or choose your own maths word

  • DECIMAL
  • TENTH
  • HUNDRED
  • MULTIPLY
  • PROBLEM SOLVING

IDL

As part of our IDL learning, we are taking on a 5 week block of focused learning including cooking, writing, ICT, technology and drama.

Part of this learning will involved building a model of a bike that you have designed. The bike needs to have a purpose – transport, sport, ambulance, mobile classroom bike etc.

Design a bike and label its features. Here’s an example using the Qhubeka “buffalo” bike.

SKY SKILLS STUDIO!

Today we had an epic trip to sky skills studio! We learned about how to create a TV show from start to finish including writing scripts, planning, shooting, directing, producing and editing.

We had some epic wardrobe changes as well!

We are currently working on a way to get the final video on the blog, but each pupil was given a wrist band USB with the video on it to take home and keep.

Here are some great photos of the day.

Thursday

Today in maths we were using money as a context to help us understanding how to take away from a number with zeros in it.

We need to exchange one from the column to the left and make ten of the thing we need.

eg 100 – 11 = change 1 hundred into 10 10s and take 1 away. This leaves 90. Then take 1 of the tens and turn it into 10 units. Then take 1 away and this leaves 8 tens and 9 units = 89.

100-11=89

here are some more place value games to play!

In PE we warmed up with “rock, paper, scissors” with our bodies. We are working on our hand and eye coordination on a Thursday. Next week we will start badminton!

Wednesday

Today we were continuing our graphic design learning in ICT. We are researching concept bicycles and creating a persuasive poster about our chosen bicycle.

In Language we were learning about openers and tomorrow we will be focusing on connectives such as “but”, “then”, “before” etc.

In Maths we were given a times table performance by Primary 6/7. They have been using an amazing new times table app called “maths rockx” to learn their times tables.

We have now got the app and we are going to be practicing to see if we can improve our times table skills each week

Tuesday & homework

Homework week beginning 4th September

PE

We are improving our fitness through High Intensity work outs! This means it is extremely important that all children have a PE kit on Monday and Thursday as we will be getting sweaty! For homework complete the following:

100 squats, 3 mins total plank, 60 sit ups.

You can break it up into chunks and spread it out over the week.

Maths

Last week we learned how to put numbers in order including decimals. To keep practicing this put the following numbers into order of size. You can choose to do one, two or all three!

A: 1.2        2.2             3.2             3.3             4.3             1.6          3.9

B: 2.11      2.41           2.43           2.99           2.10           2.01      2.22

C: 1.0110           1.10111             1.00021             1.0210      1.1102

Language

We are learning to explore for WOW words and powerful openers. Find a book/newspaper/website that you like to read. Identify at least 5 WOW words and make a WOW word grid.

Word Meaning Synonym example

French

play number lotto with someone at home! Here is also a french game you can play to learn the numbers.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/schools/primarylanguages/french/numbers/games/

In maths we were learning to count on and back.

In ict we were exploring different apps on the iPad. One app we looked at was notes which has a draw function. We designed a solitaire.

Happy Monday

This morning we finished a block of learning in maths. We were learning about how to put numbers in order of size. We also explained why the number was bigger or smaller

eg 3.18 is smaller than 3.6 because in the units column it’s both the same but in the tenths there is a 6 which is bigger.

In language we were learning a new character called “Expi the Explorer”. We learned how to explore for WOW words. A WOW word is a dramatic word, unusual word or a word that makes the text better.

In PE we are learning to get stronger and fitter. to be successful we needed to not give up.

At assembly we learned about rights, for example article 19 all children have the right to share their success and talent.

In HWB we learned about how our needs are the same as people from around the world, but our wants and priorities are different.

Wednesday

Today we were finishing our work on building up and breaking down numbers – this is super important because we will use it in all of our adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing to make the calculations easier.

Tomorrow we are focusing on putting numbers in order including decimals.

We also applied for jobs! As part of being a primary 7 we need ICT monitors to run the school. This requires filling out a job application and being able to think under pressure in an interview.

Here are a couple of examples for you to hear!

Remember PE kit tomorrow.

Tuesday 29th August

Today we were further exploring the first character of our BIG READING programme – REX the RETRIEVER

We are retrieving information about our new reading book and tomorrow we will be using the information to answer questions about the text.

In maths, we were building and breaking down numbers. As part of this we were using our shiny new place value dice!

All the Primary 7s have a school trip on 11th September to the SKY SKILLS STUDIO!

Check out the website to find out more…

Honey Monday!

Today we finally extracted our first crop of honey!

It was a simple process but took a bit of time and was extremely messy! There will be a video on the bee blog in the next few days demonstrating exactly how it was done.

In PE, we were working on improving our sideways movement with various team games. We were also getting fitter!
