Wednesday

Today we were finishing our work on building up and breaking down numbers – this is super important because we will use it in all of our adding, subtracting, multiplying, dividing to make the calculations easier.

Tomorrow we are focusing on putting numbers in order including decimals.

We also applied for jobs! As part of being a primary 7 we need ICT monitors to run the school. This requires filling out a job application and being able to think under pressure in an interview.

Here are a couple of examples for you to hear!

Remember PE kit tomorrow.

Tuesday 29th August

Today we were further exploring the first character of our BIG READING programme – REX the RETRIEVER

We are retrieving information about our new reading book and tomorrow we will be using the information to answer questions about the text.

In maths, we were building and breaking down numbers. As part of this we were using our shiny new place value dice!

All the Primary 7s have a school trip on 11th September to the SKY SKILLS STUDIO!

Honey Monday!

Today we finally extracted our first crop of honey!

It was a simple process but took a bit of time and was extremely messy! There will be a video on the bee blog in the next few days demonstrating exactly how it was done.

In PE, we were working on improving our sideways movement with various team games. We were also getting fitter!

Potato salad

Today we made potato salad with the potatoes that we grew with last year’s Primary 7.

We learned about how to chop safely and how to season our food properly.

In maths we have been playing “place value bowling” where we build numbers from the different parts.

Have a nice weekend, I know I will!

Monday Homework

Homework week beginning 21.8.17

Maths

We are learning about place value. This includes reading, writing and ordering numbers by size.

For homework you have a worksheet. You can also write the following numbers in words

  • 1,256
  • 52,2987
  • 6,000,000
  • 1
  • 999
  • 4,254,589,587

Or Make up a mystery sum quiz and try with someone at home.

Today in Writing, we started our graphic novels. We planned our characters – the detective and the villain and practiced the black and white drawings.

In PE we were SWEATING! by trying to beat our own fitness scores.

After lunch we were team building and one activity was to pick potatoes that last year’s P7 class planted. Hopefully on Friday we will make some potato salad.

Day 2

Today we had another great day.

This morning we had PE and ICT with Mr Green and Mrs Thomson

In maths, we explored how we felt about maths and what our confidence level was starting primary 7.

We also played “mystery sum” – I have thought of a mystery sum and you need to work out what it is by going over clues about the answer.

1.The answer is under 100

2.The answer is odd

3.None of the digits in the answer are the same

4.All the digits in the answer are below 7

5.The answer is more than 10×3 =

6.None of the digits in the sum are the same

7.It’s a timestable sum

8.The answer is between 40 and 50

9.Its in the 9 times table.

Can you work out what my mystery sum was?

We have also been learning about the charity “Qhubeka” and how they protect children’s rights in Africa by giving them a bike.

We have also been evaluating our own performance working as a team on a specific task.

Next week our writing topic will be “graphic novels”

If you want to get ready for this topic, you can

  • plan your detective character
  • Plan your villain
  • Research graphic novels .

Enjoy your weekend, I know I will.

First day back!

We had a great first day back at school today!

We were exploring team work and how to be effective when working together on a task.

We identified that sharing, respect, listening to other’s opinions, and sometimes having a leader is the most effective way to complete a task.

We also learned about the charity Qhubeka which provides bikes for people in rural areas of Africa. If you want to know more about the charity, here is their website! There is also lots of info on youtube about them.

See you tomorrow!
