wednsday 29th november blog

This morning we were learning more about climate change which is our topic right now.

Then we read our books so that we can understand the text more. Some groups had to create their own questions about the text to show that they understood it.

Hes a strong reader!

In maths we are learning  repeated adding (multiplying) one group played elimination, what you do is you need to say numbers in the 4 times table and you can say up to 2 numbers, whoever says 40 is out!

Then we did our posters for the 8 times table and used Kieras 4 times table poster to show us what it should look like.

Kireas great
Good work so far euan!

Here are stop motion multiplying videos from Kiera and Aaron T.

Tusday the 28th blog

Today we had Mrs Rutherford . We were playing the keyboard.

We were also singing our school show song. Follow the star.

This is the words to our song

Then before break time we were learning about how to call a complaint because we orderd a five piece garding set and we ordered three and only two came. Mr Mcmullan called Argos and told them.

This is Liam making a pretend phone call to argos.

Just before break we  played elimanation with our spelling words. We where learning to spell our words. We worked in two’s.The game is easy all you have to do is take a word or number then you are not alowed to say the last letter.S o say the word was nontoxic you are not allowed to say the c.

these are our spelling words

Sian and Callum playng elemanation.

After lunch we were learning to understand the meaning of text. We used a new learning ladder. This shows you how to understand the meaning of text. Here is a picture of the ladder.

The ladder.

We then used this skill in comprehension. Come people were reading about “El Nino”. Here is some pictures of people working.

Phobe working hard.

This is the El Nino sheet.

This is the weather sheet.

After that we started learning more about Global Warming. We watched a video about the greenhouse effect.

This is the video.

We are also adding to our mind map. Here is some exampels.

Then we started explaining the greenhouse effect.

These are some of the examples.

Pleas remember and bring a PE kit tomorrow.

Homework week beginning 27th November

Language

We are working on our understanding of text this week. This means that we need to read a piece of text and explore what the words mean on their own and as a full piece of text. An important part of this is inference – this means reading between the lines and working out extra information. Another important part is knowing the meaning of tricky words.

For homework, go on one of the following science news websites, read a few articles and write a summary of the information in the article.

https://www.dogonews.com/category/science

https://www.sciencenews.org/topic/earth-environment

https://www.esa.int/esaKIDSen/SEM2OXXTVKG_Earth_0.html

Maths

We are continuing to work on our understanding of multiplying and our times table recall.

For homework, play hit the button and record your best scores for the following times tables

2, 4, 8, 3, 6, 7, 9.

Try and beat your score!

IDL

We are exploring how carbon dioxide affects the temperature of the earth. This is called “The greenhouse effect”. For homework, you can calculate your “carbon footprint” which shows you how much carbon you release in a year!

https://www.treesforlife.org.au/kids-carbon-calculator

peer assesing!

Primary 7 started the day with extremly good, hard work. what wewere doing was peer assesing each other’s writing work from Friday. How they were doing it was bascially  they had to mark each others work and look out for vcop what that stands for is. V for vocabulary C for connectives  O for openers and P for puncuation. This is a piece of writing that has alot of vcop and is done corectly.

this one was done by Allan.

They also were finishing off their global warming mind maps. We got to watch a few videos on global warming to get intresting facts but first they had to do what they already knew in pencil then a different colour for the videos. This shows us what we already knew and what we learned during the lessons.

This was done by euan.

when the class came back from assembly they cracked on to a bit of maths this is a sum they had to do its only a wee bit of maths before lunch its just basically to refresh there memory. The answer is 40 obviously.

In maths, we were learning to demonstrate reapted adding (multiplying).  we made posters on ways to times numbers for example 12×8=96 then we did number lines on the poster ,arrays what an array is its like a domino but using time tables sums.

this one was done by Lelia.

well done lexi.

Happy Friday/24.11.17

Today we were learning more about global warming. We had to find the answers to the questions that Mr McMullan gave us, this links with ther right “Article 17 – Children have the to access information that is important to their health and well.

But before that we watched a bit of blue planet and we took notes and made a mind map.

For both of these subjects we were learning to find information and use it. This links to artical 17 again” Artical 17- children have the right to access information that is important to their health and wellbeing”

In storywriting we were learning to right and use V.C.O.P thought a piece of writing about a person in Africa who does not have the right to an education because they cant get their education because they need to walk and then they get a qhubeka bike.

this is a awesome timelape one of children in my class made it is awesome!

In maths, we were learning to say and know what we had to do to get the answer so we then answered questions about our christmas fair “i have charisma” – quote Stephen (table mannars)

au revior d’Arran

This blog post was made and created by Arran all credit to Arran thanks  🙂

thursday23:11:17

This morning in PE we where learning to use our body to get into good positions to hit the shuttlecock, although for some people it was a bit hard. We were hitting the shuttlecock with the racket with under arm skills and using a smash!

After playtime we were learning all about global warming.

Trees give you oxygen  so do plants we breath  in oxygen. We where learning about the greenhouse effect. People breath out carbon dioxide and so do cars. This contributes to the greenhouse effect, where the gas traps the heat and the earth gets hotter.

WETnesday

This morning we did maths.

We were learing about multiplying whilst using a number line.

Example: 8×7 we would do the second number how many jumps and the first number how many spaces. You should get 56 as the answer.

We did three of these questions using a empty number line.

Afterwards we started a times table sheet we were given. It looks like this.

You go along the line and add on the number at the start. The first time  you double and then add the same number at the start and just keep doing that untill your all the way along the line. This is repeated adding

After maths we went to ICT and explored the new games on our active learn account – they are all multiplying and dividing games.

We came back and we were continuing to work on our fluency. We need to be able to predict tricky words to be fluent, so we practiced that.

Plus we made up a list of criteria to use when reading with a partner to check their fluency.

Homework week beginning 21st November

Homework week beginning 21st November

Langauge

We have been working on our fluency when we are reading words that we don’t immediately recognise. We identified that we need to sound out words and we need to reread them multiple times.

For homework, practice one of the tongue twisters.

double bubble gum bubbles double

sixty silly sisters simply singing

Children have also been given a print out of other tongue twisters to try.

Punctuation – in writing on Friday, we are going to be assessing our punctuation. For homework you need to make a punctuation poster – you have to choose 1 piece of punctuation that you think is the best and explain why. You also need to use it in a sentence.

Maths

We are starting our new maths topic of multiplying and dividing. For homework choose at least 3 of the multiplying sums from below and draw number lines to show how they work

3 x 4                           8 x 9                           4 x 12                         1.5 x 6                       11 x 7

4 x 18                         3 x 29                         8 x 15

IDL

Our new IDL topic is going to be “Global Warming”. For homework you need to research Global warming. Specifically, can you find the answer to the following questions:

  1. What is causing Global Warming?
  2. Why is Global Warming a bad thing?
  3. Which countries will be affected most if the sea levels rise?
  4. What is the Paris agreement?
  5. Which country has a leader who wants to withdraw them from the Paris agreement?

21st November 2017

reading

In reading we were learning to read fluenly and write an assessment around the ladder and also top tips.

what we did to help us learn this was sounding out the words and recognising the word.

maths

Today in maths we started a new subject multiplcation and division.

We learned how to multiply.

Multiplying is when you repeatedly add the same number over and over again.

You can do this with number lines and with somehting called an array.

we did a mind map and a game called how close to 100!

By Calum, Euan and Mr McMullan

Thursday 16th November

Today  we came into school and then we had to fix our spelling words for this week. it was ok sum people thought it was hard and some people found it easy.

Next we went to p.e it was hard today. We were doing activities and hard activities. We did 1 minte for each activity and no rest them we went around again for 20 seconss then had 10 secons rest.

Then we where doing maths today we where doing a naths comprehension activity. We had to then use these skills to create our own maths comprehension skills.

The key to making your own word problems is to choose a context and to plan the whole sum before you start writing.

After lunch in language, we were learning to answer questions with quotes from the text in your answer.

In learning to use quotes into the questions, we all love learning it is the best and there is a lot of pages to read .
