Story Writing

Today Primary 6/7B started a 6 part story. They used specific tools from the author’s craft to make their story introduction more interesting. The introductions focused on enticing the reader to read on. Children used the 5 senses, similes, metaphors and other descriptive words.

We started by looking at synonyms for standard words and used our previous knowledge to generate other more descriptive words. We then created our own similes and metaphors, analysing the difference between them.

We then used different coloured pens and identified how other authors use the senses. This helped us apply this skill in our own work.

Finally we were ready to write the introductions for our stories. What a great descriptive start to our story so far.

In the afternoon we planned a new way to learn. We will be working on child led focused learning…watch this space!

We also practised our line drawing skills, developing size and scale and using artist techniques to combine two objects together. This week we drew a pangolin climbing up a tree.

Developing the Young Workforce

For Developing the Young Workforce, we looked at the Emergency Services.  We researched what some of the different jobs were in the police, fire, ambulance and lifeboat services.  We discussed what these involved and the skills required.  Some of us may even consider a future career in the Emergency Services.

Active Maths and the RNLI

This morning the boys and girls participated in more active maths. We demonstrated our skills and applied our number bonds and number compliment skills. This will help us as we move on to work with larger numbers.

This afternoon children were learning about the RNLI and their role as emergency responders. They looked at the history of the RNLI examined the impact cold shock response has on the body and how to overcome it.

We finished off by creating Sea Rescue comic strips.

Active Maths in P6/7

Today Primary 6/7 engaged in active maths.

They were learning how to divide by 10, 100 and 1000.

They also worked on achieving good accuracy and increasing their speed when answering numeracy and multiplication questions.

Mr Green very impressed with your effort and explaining your answers to highlighting your learning.
