record any other words you don’t know the meaning of and guess their meaning before looking them up.

Let’s also work on our prediction skills. Prediction is a key skill for understanding what you have read and making sense of a longer piece of text.

Answer these prediction questions

  2. What kidn of relationship will X-Ray and Stanley have? Will the be friends? Team mates? Enemies? Why?
  3. How will the Warden react when the Warden finds out that Mr Pendanski didn’t tell The Warden about the fossil that Stanley found?

Place value practice

Here is an excellent game that gets you to visualise where numbers are on a number line and then compare their size. Take your time to look carefully at the numbers on the line and how many pieces the line is split into, this will help you guess the number. Give it a go

  1. Do I have enough flour? yes
  2. How much flour will I have left over at the end? 400g

1kg = 1000g

2kg = 2000g.

Today’s problem

I leave my house at 09:20am. I want to get the 09:35 bus and it takes me 12 minutes to walk to the bus stop. I forget my phone and realise after walking 1 minute from my house. I immediately turn around and walk back for it, then straight to the bus stop.

  1. How long do I have to walk from the house to the bus stop before the bus gets there?
  2. If I didn’t forget my phone, how long after I arrived at the bus stop, would the bus have arrived?
  3. Will I be on time to catch the bus after I have turned back to get my phone?
