Holy Week Reflection

Palm Sunday (28th March) marked the beginning of Holy Week, a year into the pandemic most of us wouldn’t have imagined we would be celebrating another Easter under restrictions….now more than ever, we are moving forward and see a light at the end of the tunnel.

Undoubtedly, this year has challenged us in ways we never considered, we have all had our personal versions of a cross to bear, yet as Pope Francis says:

“Having faith does not mean having no difficulties, but having the strength to face them knowing we are not alone.”

Sadly, we cannot come together in reflection and prayer just yet but Fr David has kindly recorded a brief service for our school community. We warmly invite you to take 15 minutes, listen to the words and take some time for yourself.

Virtual Leavers Mass – Wednesday 3 June

We take this opportunity to remind you that Fr David, our school chaplain, will offer mass for all pupils from Lourdes Secondary who will be leaving school at the end of this term, especially for those pupils in Sixth Year, tomorrow,  Wednesday 3rd June at 3pm. All pupils, parents and staff are warmly invited to join Fr David live at either of the links below:

A message from the Head Teacher – 5 May 2020

Dear Parent/Carer

I hope and pray that you continue to be safe and healthy at this very difficult time. Please contact me if you have any health or other concerns that you think our school community can help with.  Contact can be made at: headteacher@lourdes-sec.glasgow.sch.uk

I cannot, at this stage, offer any indication of when we will be able to welcome our pupils back to school but we continue to issue work to S1-3 pupils and will start to issue work for S4-6 pupils from Monday 25th May. I appreciate that home learning causes many problems for many people and if we can assist with this please contact me. We are working very hard to further develop our approach to this to make access easier for pupils and will update you as soon as possible.

I hope that your child is able to engage in some home learning but please remember that from our calendar, Friday 8th May is a holiday and Monday 11th of May is an in-service day so pupils can have two days of rest from school work. This should not, however, prevent them from helping you with a variety of household tasks.

In addition, I would like to take this opportunity to let you know that Archbishop Tartaglia will offer Mass for all Catholic School Communities on Sunday 10th May at 12pm in St Andrew’s Cathedral.   School communities are invited to join the Archbishop live using the video link below.

Catholic Education Week 2019

Sunday 24th November marks the beginning of Catholic Education Week for our school. The theme for this year is “Promoting Gospel Values” and pupil learning in RE will have this focus.

On Sunday pupils and their families are warmly invited to join us at either 11am at Our Lady and St George, Penilee or 11.30am Mass at Our Lady of Lourdes, Cardonald to support this celebration of Catholic Education. If possible pupils attending should wear school uniform.

All Saints Day – Friday 1 November

Friday 1st November is All Saints Day. As a holy day of obligation we will be celebrating Mass during the course of the school day at Our Lady of Lourdes RC church.

Year groups will attend as detailed below:

  • S2 and senior pupils (S4/5/6) will go directly to the church on Friday morning where Mass will begin at 8:50am.
  • S1 and S3 pupils will be taken to the church by their period 4 class teachers with Mass beginning for them at 12:15pm. Pupils will then be dismissed for lunch from the church.

Please feel welcome to join us at either of these Masses.
