Arrangements for pupils

Pupils will be escorted along to the PE department and exit via the fire door to access the games hall. Pupils should return to the building via Café Lourdes entrance. This will ensure a smooth flow of traffic. Disruption to lessons should last around 15 minutes.  All pupils MUST see the nursing team whether they intend to receive the injection or not. If pupils have not handed their consent form in, a text message from their parent/carer indicating consent is sufficient.

The text message should state:

I am the parent/carer of (pupil name). I give/do not give consent for my child to receive the flu vaccination.

Scottish Government Free Bus Travel for Under 22s – Survey

Do you have a child aged 5-16, or are you a young person aged 12-21? If so, please complete our short travel survey for a chance to win up to £250 in Love2Shop vouchers.

The Scottish Government will soon be launching the Free Bus Travel Scheme for young people between the ages of 5 and 21. This aims to encourage greener travel patterns, and increase opportunities for young people to engage in employment, education and social activities and not be excluded due to travel costs. Transport Scotland will monitor the scheme as it progresses to check on use and impact. The first step is to try and understand current travel patterns so that any changes after the scheme is introduced can be identified.

We would be grateful if parents/carers of younger children (i.e. those aged 5-16), or young people aged 12-21 themselves, could complete this short travel survey. The questionnaire asks about current travel behaviour, and your thoughts about bus travel generally and the free bus travel. This should take no more than 10 minutes to do.

Contact Us: If you have any questions about the work or problems completing the questionnaire, please contact our Project Manager, Elaine Wilson-Smith, at elaine@wellsideresearch.co.uk or on 0131 677 5522.

Cardonald Dog and Cat Home Collection

As part of Advent at Lourdes, we will be collecting for Cardonald Dog and Cat Home.

As I am sure you are aware, there is always a large number of dogs and cats on the facility looking for their forever home. We have done many collections for them in the past and the staff and furry animals have always been very appreciative at the generosity Lourdes has shown.

We are looking to collect dog and cat food, clean blankets, towels, bowls, toys, leads etc. Please note, they cannot accept duvets or pillows as they may be harmful to the animals if swallowed.

If you want to donate any items, please bring to the PE Dept or the Nurture room. We will be looking to drop these items off just before we finish up for Christmas, so plenty of time to get a winter clear out or round the shops to treat some poor wee homeless animals.

Thanks in advance.

Anti-Bullying Week

Next week is Anti- Bullying Week for all schools across the UK, the theme for 2021 is ‘One Kind Word’.  All pupils will participate in themed activities during PSE lessons throughout the week. To get things off to a good start, we will be encouraging all staff and pupils to get involved in ‘Odd Socks’ day on Monday 15th November. This will be a fun way to raise awareness and to visibly demonstrate our commitment to eradicating bullying from Lourdes Secondary. #getinvolved

GENZ Leaders Invite to Parents and Pupils

Dear Staff, Parents and Carers,

This relevant, challenging and amusing talk takes a look at life for staff, parents and carers today, with advice on how to best navigate the challenges that might be faced, helping to build resilience in our young people.

Many young people leave school with a developed sense of “I can’t” and “I am no good.”  James seeks to encourage staff, parents and carers to recognise that education is about the whole individual and not just academic performance, just as GenZ Leaders celebrates the achievements of our young people.

GenZ Leaders encourages and develops young people to become the leaders of the next generation. “It is not simply excellent grades but strength of character and an ability to persevere that will enable children to flourish in the future” – Headteacher

“I was one of the parents at your inspiring talk last week and just wanted to thank you for doing what you do – I think it’s phenomenal.” Parent
