We loved yesterday’s Science funday where we got to blast off rockets, do balloon magic, erupt volcanoes, make a lava lamp and create edible chocolate slime!
The Bluebells celebrated World Book Day last week by choosing and listening to their favourite stories. The Children choose their favourite characters and dressed up. On Friday the children listened to the story of the Tartan Witch read to them by the author. They demonstrated that they were responsible citizens as they sat and listened with other classes and then they enjoyed taking part in a variety of activities including making a Witch’s Potion.
The SQA Practical Crafts groups created these fantastic flower pictures using recycled materials. The pupils used egg boxes and displayed excellent cutting and painting skills during the activity.
Well done to these super successful learners.
The SQA ECO group have their first donation of old mascara wands, thanks to Mrs Boyle! We are needing lots more so everyone and anyone please donate to the SQA ECO group rather than putting in the bin! The ECO group will wash them and send them all away to ‘Wands for Wildlife’ once we have a decent collection. Recycle your old items and help look after our animals so we all can be effective contributors.

The Snowdrops made very effective contributions to many activities relating to World Book Day. In class, we made lots of personal choices, making bookmarks, painting and sharing our favourite stories from home. Everyone was confident individuals joining in with a school parade on Thursday morning.
The Stars class enjoyed various World Book Week activities. We created bunting, dressed up and had a parade, brought in our favourite books to share, had a book swap, treasure hunt, enjoyed an author visit and read books on video, e-book and at the Dick Institute. We all enjoyed the experiences very much. However, let’s not forget, we made pancakes on Shrove Tuesday too!
The Sungazers were confident individuals as they made and flipped crepes at cookery. Tres Bien!!
The Sungazers were effective contributors as they participated in whole school events to celebrate World Book Day.
We had a special visitor come into school today. Greta Yorke and her friend Moira came to Willowbank today to read Greta’s book “The Tartan Witch”. The whole school got to listen to Greta and Moira tell the story about the tartan witch. Greta had also organised some lovely activities related to the book for the children to do after listening to the story. The activities were : exploration of the characters from the book, creating our own tartan using special wooden blocks with different lines on them, a matching game and a potion station. Everyone really enjoyed listening to the story and were effective contributors when engaging with the activities.
Thursday was World Book Day. The ladies dressed up as pirates in pyjamas. The boys dressed up too, some also came in in their pyjamas.
We all got to go to the book swap table and choose a book home. We really enjoyed this. We read the stories in front of the board and enjoyed lying down with our cushions.
