FAOL – SCIENCE

*Successful Learners* *Confident Individuals*

This week we have been learning more about where our food comes from. We looked closely at where Milk comes from and created our own experiment to experience ‘Milking a Cow’.

After ‘Milking the Cow’, we followed a simple recipe to make Ice-cream in a Bag. We explored the ice and talked about hot & cold. We mixed the ice in a big bag with salt & then placed a smaller bag of milk inside it and shook it around to watch the milk turn into ice-cream. We found it was much harder for the chocolate milk to turn to ice-cream!

And for the best part…

IDL/THEME – FARM TO FORK

*Successful Learners*  *Confident Individuals*

The Sungazers have started our new topic ‘Farm to Fork’ and have been learning all about where our food comes. We have been discussing foods that we like & dislike, as well as foods that we think are good for our bodies.

We made a fresh snack using Farm produced foods:

We continued practising our life skills by making our own Pig Biscuits. We used a mixture of healthy and sugary foods and talked about how it is good to eat sweet treats in moderation. These treats were more of a hit in the class, believe it or not!

FAOL – Sciences – Floating and Sinking

*Successful Learners       *Effective Contributors

We tried to guess which items would float and which items would sink. We weren’t always right! Some items even floated for a wee while then sank! We had great fun. We’ve also enjoyed a treasure hunt, made ‘star’ sandwiches and made tree pictures as we explored seasons.

WELCOME BACK SUNGAZERS!

*Confident Individuals* *Successful Learners* *Effective Contributors*

The Sungazers have settled into their new classroom & school routine very well. We read the story ‘Giraffe’s Can’t Dance’ and talked about all of things that we can do if we work hard! We also used Science to see if we could make raisins dance inside a bottle full of lemonade – this was fascinating!

We have enjoyed plenty of Art activities to brighten up our classroom and the Wee Den. The class have let Miss. McCreath know that they all really enjoy Science so we’ve already had plenty of science experiments and messy play!

We have a lot of photos to share next week. Have a great weekend!

Snowdrops – Welcome Back

80 Salutare Illustrations & Clip Art - iStock

Hello, it is lovely to see the Snowdrops back in school after the summer break.  Everyone is settling in well to our class routine and enjoying seeing their friends.

This term, we are running a colour theme for each day of the week.  The pupils are enjoying exploring numeracy, literacy, expressive arts and other curricular area activities through colours.  For example, Wednesday is our Yellow Day.  We enjoy listening to the song ‘Here Comes the Sun’ (Singing Hands version) and our movement for this song is swaying. We also enjoy making yellow collages, exploring what colours mix togther to make yellow, explore various yellow sensory materials, over/under write words, enjoy colour stories and practise our counting and number recognition (just to name a few!)

Below is our colour timetable for the week.  Please feel free to listen to the songs at home, joining in with the movement and talking about colours.

Monday is our  Red Day.  Clap/tap along to the song below (Singing Hands – Shine)

Tuesday is our Orange Day. Stamp/shake along to Singing Hands – Roar.

Wednesday is our Yellow Day. Sway along to Singing Hands – Here Comes The Sun

Thursday is our Green Day. Try moving your arms, stretching arms up and to the sides or giving Hi 5’s to Singing Hands – Try Everything

Friday is our Blue Day. Try some flowing and stretching movements to Singing Hands – What A Wonderful World

A Warm Welcome for the New Stars Class

*Confident Individuals     *Effective Contributors     *Responsible Citizens *Successful Learners

The Stars class have settled in well to their new classroom and routine and have enjoyed doing activities together after the summer break. We learnt ‘All About Me’ and told our likes and dislikes, made friendship potions, discussed kind and unkind behaviours, read Rainbow Fish and made personalised flowers for our ‘Friendship Garden’ wall display. In the sensory garden we weeded and tidied our planters where we discovered potatoes, onions, carrots, nasturtiums and sweet peas which were planted by Mrs Gardner’s class last year.
