RME Diwali

We have been learning about Diwali the Hindu festival of lights. The Bluebells enjoyed a sensory story where we explored sensory props and took part in role play to learn about the celebration. In the Bluebells the children were confident individuals following instructions to make diva lamps. We were successful learners when we created rangoli patterns using different art materials including rice, sand and paint. Mehndi patterns are a traditional Hindu hand decoration we used crayons to create our own. A massive congratulations to the Bluebells who won the rangoli competition.

IDL – Health and Wellbeing

Our theme is Oliver’s vegetables. We have been learning about the different vegetables and some of the children are able to identify what each vegetable is using their words or symbols.  We explored the vegetables, put them in basin, washed them and then carefully with physical support from staff were able to cut some of the vegetables. We enjoyed smelling, feeling and on occasion tasting some of them.

The children were able to confidently hold the knife with support from the staff to cut up the vegetables from the story.  We then used the cut up vegetables to make some artwork in the afternoon. We printed using them. We looked at the different patterns and textures it created on the page. It was great fun.

FAOL – Good Health and Wellbeing

*Successful Learners*     *Confident Individuals*     *Responsible Citizens*

The Snowdrops have really enjoyed looking at, touching, smelling and tasting a variety of healthy foods.  For trying new healthy foods we followed the process of smelling it first, then kissing it with our lips, touching it with our tongues and then finally popping it in our mouths to eat.  Everyone did really well following these steps for the first time.

We have also looked at and explored foods that are unhealthy for us and discuss why they were not good for us. We were then able to identify and sort a variety of foods into the 2 different groups of healthy and unhealthy.

IDL MNU Evidence

Successful Learners/Effective Contributors/Confident Individuals

The Asteroids have been busy investigating the weights of different vegetables and comparing their weights and sizes. We tried to estimate which vegetable would be the heaviest then we checked our predictions using the balancing scales.
We worked hard to order some vegetables in order of heaviest to lightest, lightest to heaviest.

50 Things – Bug Hotel

Responsible Citizen/Confident Individual

To make our bug hotel, we recycled our plastic bottles and cut a space in the side. We had to use good looking skills to find different natural materials such as sticks, stones and fir cones, to stack inside our bottles to provide shelter for the bugs.
After finishing our bug hotels, we placed them in the garden to see if any bugs would be attracted to our hotels. We visited a few weeks later and found a few creepy crawlies in our hotels so we were very pleased to have helped the wildlife  in our school grounds. Good job, Asteroids!

IDL Evidence: ‘Invention Room’ Sweetie Art

Today we were confident individuals and chose different art medias to ‘invent’ our own sweets as part of our theme work.

We watched a clip of ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ for inspiration, then were successful learners and created our own designs.
