Christmas Fayre Thank You !

A HUGE thank you to all the parents, grandparents and family members from the school and ECC who attended our Christmas Fayre !

Thanks also  to those who donated raffle prizes, tombola gifts, bottles and baking – we were overwhelmed by your generosity!!

Very special mention goes to the parents and grandparents who volunteered their time to help set up the Fayre on Thursday after school  and all those parents who helped to man the stalls on the day of the Fayre.  We definitely couldn’t have done it without you!!!

The total raised at present is somewhere around £4000 – a fabulous total which is far beyond our expectation, which will help to support the learning of all our pupils, particularly through IT.

P3B St. Andrews Day Assembly

On Monday afternoon, the second circle assembly group and P3B parents and grandparents were superbly entertained by Mrs. Baird and Mr. Smith’s boys and girls. We learned lots about St. Andrew, the patron Saint of Scotland. P3B narrators told the story of St. Andrew, there was a Scottish poem and everyone sang Scottish songs to help us celebrate St. Andrew’s Day which happens this Thursday on the 30th November. Our guests even had the chance to enjoy homemade shortbread in Base 2!! Thank you so much, P3B,. You are stars!!

GIRLS FOOTBALL

Here are the P5 and P6 girls who attend football training on a Monday with Bethany, our Ayrshire College student and girls football coach. They also represented us superbly at last week’s Grange Cluster Cup first event. They didn’t win the event but they had lots of fun and very proudly came back to school with the Fair Play Cup. This was awarded in recognition of their positive, enthusiastic attitude and sportsmanlike behaviour throughout the event. Well done, girls!!  We are so proud of you.

Unfortunately, we have no team strips for the girls who played last week in our school orienteering tops. We would be extremely grateful if there was a company or business with a family link to Gargieston which would be able to sponsor us and so help us to have new strips for all our future football events.   Our very successful boys team need new strips too. We would be so grateful for any help.

Visit by Microsoft to P6

On Tuesday straight after lunch P6 were given a visit by Microsoft to teach us all about Microbits and coding. We were given a USB cable, a battery pack and a microbit chip. We went onto a website called Microsoft Make Code and clicked on the first option which was Microbit. On the simulator we were taught how to code pictures onto our microbit and if we plugged in the USB it appeared on the chip. First we learnt how to code a heart shape that flashed in the centre as a basic of code. Then we were allowed to create our own pictures on the simulator. And for a challenge we had to code a game of rock paper scissors on our chips. After that we could make as many pictures on the microbits we wanted for the last couple of minutes. All of P6 would like to give a huge thanks for Microsoft and the teachers from  St Mungo’s High School and all the people at Microsoft. We really enjoyed playing with the microbits.

Halloween Disco Fun!

A huge thank you to the GFG and all the parent helpers who organised and carried out fantastic Halloween discos last night.

Halloween Disco – 25th October

Our GFG have organised the Halloween disco and requested that parents do not wait in the hall.  As stated on the GFG  Facebook page parents are welcome to wait in our parent room. We will also demonstrate how to post on your child’s e-portfolio in the ICT suite. After the successful workshops at parents’ night we hope all parents will regularly check their child’s progress and give feedback.

Book Fair

A HUGE thank you to everyone who has bought books at the book fair. As always we have had a wonderful response from parents and children. Just a reminder that pupils can still buy a book tomorrow (Wednesday) at lunchtime in the library if they wish. Our final total will be announced soon!

Foodstuffs will be collected together as part of our Harvest assembly on Friday, 13th October which will be led by the RRS group. The foodbank would welcome any donations but have indicated that they would be particularly grateful for donations of:-  tinned fruit ,teabag, breakfast cereal, dried pasta
