P5D Singing at Dalbeattie Day Centre

Great enthusiasm and a responsible attitude were shown by pupils in Primary 5D who performed to visitors at Dalbeattie Day Centre. The class have been working with musicians from Feis Rois to learn a variety of Scots songs. They have also learned to play rhythms on the taiko drums to accompany the song “Hey Donal”. Pupils performed a selection of their favourite songs as well as sharing their drumming skills. Mrs Dyson was delighted by the great attitude shown by all pupils when performing and in their conversations with the visitors afterwards. We would like to say thank you to the visitors of Dalbeattie Day Centre for being a wonderful audience, to the staff for the juice and biscuits afterwards, to the adults who accompanied us on the walk and also to Kate and Peter from Feis Rois who have worked so enthusiastically with us!

Christmas Fayre

Just a wee reminder that our School Christmas Fayre is on Thursday 1st of December 6pm-8pm. We have a variety of stalls joining us for the event, there will be a craft room, games organised by P4 and our school t-towels will be on sale priced £3 each. Look forward to seeing you there.

World Nursery Rhyme Week

We participated in World Nursery Rhyme Week. We enjoyed a new rhyme each day and based some of our activities around this. The rhymes we learned were Baa Baa Black Sheep, Two Little Dickie Birds, Incy Wincy Spider and Hey Diddle Diddle. There were some funny new verses to sing!

On Wednesday we peeled, cooked and ate the last of the potatoes from our garden. We had mash and beans for snack.

It was Remembrance Day on Friday. Some of us went to see the war memorial in the park.

Queen’s 90th Birthday Quiz this weekend 10th-12th June

Remember you can buy your quizzes for £1 each from the school. they are available in many shops in the town for the local community. The prizes are tremendous!

Above, our school councillors and dinner ladies are holding a selection of the thirty collage 90s which will soon be on display in shop and business windows in Dalbeattie this weekend.

Queen’s 90th Birthday Quiz

To mark the occasion of the Queen’s 90th Birthday, the school is participating in a Stewartry weekend of celebrations on 11th and 12th June (co-ordinated by Lord Lieutenant Sir Malcolm Ross) by organising a quiz in the local community. 30 shops are going to be displaying giant ’90’ collages, which have been made by the children in school. On each collage, there will be an answer to a question on the quiz sheet- quiz sheets can be purchased in advance from many shops and businesses within the town and direct through school. The quiz costs £1 and proceeds will go two of the charities for which the Queen is a patron: Barnardos and Actions for Children. We are very grateful for the tremendous support the local community has shown for this event. Not only have the shops, organisations and businesses agreed to display the collages but their generosity in donating prizes has been amazing.

On Friday 10th June, the school is also pleased to be taking part in DGFirst’s region wide theme day to celebrate the Queen’s Birthday when there will be lots of goody bags and the dessert will be Royal cupcakes!
