Work Begins On Site

Work has begun on our new Dalbeattie Learning Campus. In Term 4, we shall be taking classes to view the construction site. We are very grateful to Dalbeattie High School for helping to organise this in partnership with us. We are also delighted to be able to contribute, from time to time, to a weekly bulletin,  produced by the High School, for the new build site. We shall provide links to this when available. Dalbeattie Primary School will also update this page with pictures of our class visits, as they happen, and give a brief overview of progress on site.  Please also note, that the Primary School has a display of the plans and construction timetable for your information, on the wall next to the Office area.In the meantime, we are pleased to post the following two photographs of the site, taken from the High School’s windows.

P6F Gaming with P2

This term P6 have been using the software Kodu to create their own game. The target audience was P2 who were invited to come and play these games!  Both classes joined together and the P6’s enjoyed explaining the aim and instructions of their games while P2 gave a lot of positive feedback.  We finished with P2 singing a song they had learned about the Solar System. Great fun!

P7 French Day

On Monday 21st March, Primary 7 were treated to a full day of fun French activities at Dalbeattie High School as part of our transition work.

We had 4 different activities to take part in. They were:

  1. Au Voleur! (Catch the thief) – an activity that took us all around the school searching for clues, written on the classroom doors in French, to help us find the missing objects.
  2. L’animal imaginaire (Imaginary animals) – we had to create an imaginary animal and label it using our knowledge of French vocabulary.
  3. Les jeux de société (Board Games) – we played a variety of games which tested our French vocabulary.
  4. Des chansons, et jeux actives (songs and active games) – we sang and practiced lots of songs in preparation for our performances to the parents in the afternoon.

We all had a brilliant day and thoroughly enjoyed the delicious French breakfast of hot chocolate and croissants at break time.

Thank you Mrs Kinghorn!!

Primary 3/4 Viking Visit

Viking Visit

P3/4 go back in time with the Vikings!

Exclusive By Riley Porter

Last Thursday P3/4 had an exciting Viking visit. When we opened the door we were met by funny Vikings. Some of us got to dress up as people in the story Simon told us. He also told us about lifestyle in Viking times.  A corner of the classroom was turned into a Viking home.  Later on we pretended to row a long ship to raid other countries. Mrs Anderson split the class into three groups of seven. The first group got to play Viking chess.  Next we got to talk to Simon.  He told us about how the Vikings weighed the silver to see if it was the same weight as what the other Viking had to get it.  Some of the people got to blow the horn and lie in the bed.  After that we went to see Eric.  He told us about how the Vikings made things out of wood and showed us some of his tools to carve wood.  Last of all we went down to the field and they had a battle with all of their weapons.  We were all gripped with fear and excitement. It was a fantastic day.

Nursery News

We have been learning all about the Sun and the Moon in the Nursery. We read ‘Whatever Next’ and had a great time re-enacting the story using the same props as the bear in the story.  We then created our own stars and 3D Sun, Moon and Earth to hang in our space role play area, alongside our space ship!  We used different art techniques to create the Sun and Moon on paper too and had lots of interesting chats about what the Sun and Moon might be made of.  We have now watched some super videos which have helped us understand what the Sun and Moon are really made of and why they are important to us on Earth.

We finished off this week being sporty for Sports Relief! We had a workout outside, played a lot of football, rode the bikes and used the exercise equipment inside.  To keep us fuelled up Mrs McLatchie prepared home-made pizza with the help of some keen cooks!
