Maths Week Scotland

Throughout this week the classes have been taking part in a range of maths and numeracy activities. These  have been both indoors and outdoors. Some of the classes have also taken part in live lessons linked to maths and numeracy. It has been fantastic to see the range of knowledge skills being developed throughout each session.

Mrs Lumsden Primary 6 played two different strategy games. Fifteen was played outside and in call today the children played a game called Nim, a strategy game using 20 counters. Sofia and Sophie managed to fit all the shapes into the area allowed. Well done girls.

Mrs Mr Mclean – P6 have participated in a webinar with the Royal Botanic garden to find out how to measure weather, collect rainwater from plants etc. they then completed follow up task about rain water calculations. Unfortunately their maths fashion webinar got cancelled but they use 2D shapes to create and design their own patterns that could be used for ties or t-shirt designs.

Primary 2/3 created some maths adventures tries featuring eat maths week mascot Finn Finity.

P4/5 have been busy learning about 2D and 3D shapes, and angles.  We have played group games, made nets of shapes, iPad games, and lots of outdoor shape and angle activities!

Primary 4/5 have also been carrying out different calculations using a variety of numbers and operations.

Primary 4 have been outdoor creating symmetrical patterns and shapes as well as linking facts about themselves to numbers.

Primary 6/7 had a live lesson, worked collaboratively with P1 to create maths stories and created their own maths comic strip. Throughout all their learning they were thinking about what met-skills they had been using.

Assembly and HT Awards 20.9.24

Another busy assembly this week with a wide range  of badges and certificates handed out to celebrate lots of success throughout school this week.

The value of committed was our focus this week. All the classes shared what committed means to them. We had confident individuals come out to the front and share these thoughts with the whole school.

Being committed also featured in lots  of our awards today. We had committed learners in numeracy , literacy and PE. Being sensible and  reliable in class was another reason for an award today as well as for being a responsible citizen and well mannered communicator.

P7 pupils who participated in their bike ability level 1 training  at the start of the week were presented with their certificates and badges. They all achieved the outcomes of level 1 training and are ready for their level 2 training after the October break.

Mrs Howie will be sharing more detail in due course. Well done Meadow and Aiden for being confident individual to stand up and share this information

In Friday Focus today the group spoke with me about our school value of being kind. This continued into assembly where I asked the children to think about what being kind means at Dalbeattie Primary. We certainly do have kind children here at Dalbeattie Primary.

We also spoke about the lost property trolley in assembly and the amount of items on this. I have asked the children to try and be more responsible with their property and try to collect it and keep it safe.

Awards were give out today for a fantastic range of reasons. These included being committed to learning, being confident in PE and working collaboratively, working really hard in maths, building fluency in reading and for being a super role model. Well done to all our award winners.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Assembly and Head Teacher’s Awards 30.8.24

The theme for assembly today was about all being unique and individual in our own way. We looked at similarities and differences between a range of buttons that had been collected and then at some things from the natural world that are all unique. The children were reminded that we all have special interests and qualities and that is what makes everyone important in our school The children were reminded about treating everyone fairly and with resect. The motto  – Treat others in the way we would like to be treated. was shared  to round off the assembly.

The first awards of the term were also given out today. 2 class awards and lots of awards for settling in well and being role models for others. Showing the school values has also been a key focus for teachers as they have identified their award winners today.

Well done everyone.

Assembly 23.8.24

We held our first assembly of the new session on 23rd of August. It was great to have the whole school together looking smart in their uniforms.

The assembly focused on reviewing our Vision Values and Aims, SHANARRI and expectations of the year ahead. Some very clear messages were shared with the children about their behaviour and expectations around this both in class and int he playground.. We also talked about lost property and children taking responsibility for their own belongings. We really don’t want to be accumulating the amounts that we had last year.

We are looking forward to the year ahead and will share weekly assembly posts.
