Bikeability Level 2
P7s who participated in their Bikeability level 2 training were presented with their badges and certificates today at assembly. The children braved all weather conditions from December through to January to complete their training. The children develop skills in cycling on the roads, developing awareness of other road users, signally and negotiating both right and left turn at junctions from major to minor and minor to major roads. It was great to see how everyones confidence grew over time. Stay safe all when out on your bikes and apply the skills and knowledge you have learned through your training. Well done.
Lunchtime Challenge
Assembly and Awards
Today in assembly P7 pupils Emily, Katie D ,Katie H and Isabella presented the outcome of our Vison, Values and Aims review. They were confident at sharing their report to the whole school.
We are now waiting on our logo being finalised by the graphics team for us. We will share completed update in due course.
Head Teachers Awards were given today for lots of worthy reasons as always. Some of the reasons included, learning and applying new mathematical concepts, enthusiasm for reading and summarising the story, excellent initial ideas in art for a Tam O Shanter picture and showing enthusiasm for learning in all curricular areas. Well done to all our award winners this week.
Children In Need Next Week
Children in Need
Next week is Children in Need Day (on Friday 17th)
The School Pupil Council would like to re-run the spotty ball lucky dip again for the chance to win one of an array of Pudsey prizes: a colour photo will also be uploaded on school blog page and on Facebook.
Please note this is this is a voluntary activity. There is no expectation for all children to participate as we are mindful of cost to families. (Last year the children brought in £1 per ball which they drew out of the ball pit to reveal their lucky numbers. Many children brought in money for multiple balls.)
Two separate activities are detailed further below*.
*LUCKY BALL PIT DIP
This year, we would like to keep it a little more manageable. It will be £2 per ball and is limited to ONE ball only per child. Please note, it is optional to participate.
Because we shall be carrying out ball pit lucky dips at lunchtimes, we really need your child to bring his/her donation in an envelope clearly labelled with name and class. Envelopes will be collected in first thing on each of the three mornings. We want to avoid money getting lost between 9am and lunchtime.
Ball pit lucky dips will be on set days as follows:
P7, P6/7, P6 and P5 classes will be on Wednesday 15th November at lunchtime
P4/5, P4, P3 and P2/3 will be on Thursday 16th November at lunchtime
P1/2 and P1 will be on Friday 17th November at lunchtime
Please can your child only bring his/her £2 ball lucky dip money on the correct day. Numbers will be drawn from the hat at Friday’s assembly to decide the winners. Thank you!
*NON UNIFORM DAY FRIDAY 17TH
On Friday 17th November it is actual Children in Need Day. On this day, we shall not be doing any extra activities but the children would like to have a non uniform day (wearing something bright or yellow or spotty if possible.) Suggested donations of £1 per child can be brought in on this day. Any money collected for the non uniform event will be shared equally between Children in Need and The Janice Jamieson Foundation Trust to sponsor a young person’s education in Malawi. Thank you for your support!

What the event is about: Our pupil council is organising a ‘Decorate your House or Garden for the Coronation’ competition as part of the Big Help Out day on May 8th. While it is some of our pupils who will be decorating their houses or gardens, it is something for all families and the community to become involved in. The prize fund has been supported by local business and the town’s Coronation committee. The event is meant to be fun but also involve doing a good deed for the local community such as picking up litter, donating to the local food bank or donating to the Kippford RNLI (people could visit the shop in person while the crew is out on an exercise from approx 12pm onwards) or Dalbeattie First Responders. This is all explained on the map/forms which can be collected from: Dalbeattie Spar, Coop, Londis and at McCowans shops and at Dalbeattie Community Initiative from Wednesday 3rd May onwards. The forms are £1 each and the proceeds will be split between the Kippford RNLI or Dalbeattie First Responders. Both organisations rely on volunteers to help save lives in our local community. For those who want to donate a little more than their £1 entry, to count as their good deed for their day, money can also be sent into school with completed forms or extra money can be popped into the same collection tins at the shops which have the entry forms. (Spar, Coop, Londis, McCowans, Dalbeattie Community Initiative)
On Monday 8th May, three out of town photos will be uploaded here on the school blog page. They are the for the locations 21,22,and 23 which are indicated on the map as being out of town. While they cannot be visited for collecting a letter for the anagram/ quiz part on the form, their decorations can be voted for. Please check back here after 9am on Monday 8th May to see the three decorated places. T hank you for your support with this!
