Bug Hotel Building
On the 28th November, James Hutchinson Visitor Services Supervisor (Natural Heritage) from Threave, came to our Primary 3 class along with his fantastic helpers to talk to us about mini-beasts. They also brought a range of materials to build a bug hotel. This fitted in with our topic from last term, and the children were very enthusiastic, keen to learn and could offer lots of what they knew already.
Some of our class also brought in materials from home to use. As you will see from the pictures, it was a great morning! We were very pleased with the finished product. Freya and Murrin from the class, talked to the whole school at assembly on Friday to let them know what we made/how we made it and also to let them know that it would be placed in our playground to attract mini-beasts.
Thank you to all representatives from Threave for a great experience. We all thoroughly enjoyed it.

Read,Write,Count
Primary 1,2 and 3 were all very excited today as Mrs Duncan and Mrs Howie joined their classes to share with them their Book Bug(P1) and Read, Write, Count bags(P2 and P3) . The book bags are part of the Scottish Government initiative which aims to inspire a lifelong love of reading, writing and counting, and strengthen links between home and school learning by supporting parents in taking an active role in their child’s learning to give them the best start in life. Mrs Duncan and Mrs Howie read the books from each bag with the children and shared the motivating learning games and activities with them. The children were very also very excited to have been given their bags to take home and share with their families. We look forward to gathering feedback in due course about how families have used these together.
Primary 3 Litter Pick in the Local Community
Primary 3 took part in a litter pick today in Colliston Park. This was part of their topic work about ‘Our Community.’ The children did a great job and also recorded their findings on survey sheets. We are pleased that the litter was not that evident today. Mrs Wixon who organised the event is very grateful to Solway Firth Partnership for the use of their litter pickers and bag hoops. Mrs Howie was also pleased to accompany the children for this activity as it relates to the school’s eco work where litter is an important topic.
Primary 1/2 Walk to Old School
Primary 1/2 have been learning about our school in the present and past. As part of our topic work, we have been on a walk to look at the old school which we moved out of, just over one year ago. If any the of the pupils have old photographs at home which show family members at school in recent years or even further back in time, we would be delighted to see them.

P1F Road Safety
Last week Mrs Cameron came to tell us about her job and how to keep safe crossing busy roads. In particular she showed us how to cross at the lights on Craignair Road and we crossed over several times. Later in the week we had another visit from PC Blacklock who reminded us about road safety and especially about being seen at night. Click on photos to enlarge!
