Katie from iBike joined us today to teach us how to fix a pucture on our bikes. We all were given the opportunity to have a go at patching up a puncture. Hopefully this will be a useful skill for the future.
On Wednesday 15th November, Group 1 attended their first HE transition session.
The children thoroughly enjoyed their morning baking some very yummy chocolate puddings and followed the safety rules of the HE department very well – even tidying up after themselves!!
Group 2 are very excited for their visit!
Over the past few weeks Primary 7 have had a fantastic opportunity to visit the local library to learn about the services they provide to all young people.
Over the past two visits we have learned about how to find fiction and non-fiction books in the library and learned about the Dewey Decimal System. We were even challenged to use this system to find different categories of books in the non-fiction section.
We really enjoyed our visits and can’t thank Lesley enough for her time. We really enjoyed learning these new skills and hope we can apply them in our new library in our new school.
Primary 7 have had great fun this week finishing off their topic “Extreme Earth” from Term 3 by finally getting to use the science experiments that they tried and tested last term to make their Volcano models erupt.
Below are some pictures of the children making their models before the holidays and finally erupting them this week!!
On Thursday 30th March P7 took part in three different workshops run by Seafood in Schools at Dalbeattie High School.
The children were given opportunities to taste different seafoods, to watch a cooking demonstration and to find out more about where our seafood comes from and how it is caught.
The children had a great day and many were surprised by how much they liked some of the seafoods they had never tasted before.
Thank you to Mrs Houston for organising this experience!
Have a look at some of our superb art work from this term.
Our earth wall display – showing the location of volcanoes around the world.
We created these super twister pictures focusing on our tone, blending and shading skills.
We also created these “Great Wave” inspired Tsunami pictures.
We also developed our skills creating repeated patterns by creating these super Zentangle landscape pictures.
On Monday 20th March Primary 7 attended a Spanish Day at Dalbeattie High School as part of their transition programme. The day gave the children the opportunity to be introduced to Spanish and take part in lots of fun activities.
These activities included Zumba, Tapas making, learning the language of the fan and a treasure hunt around the school learning the names of the subjects in Spanish.
The children had an absolutely fantastic day and were really motivated and engaged in all of the activities.
A huge thank you to all of the High School staff involved in planning and organising this event. It was a superb day!
As part of our new topic we have been learning about animal adaptation. To support our class learning, Miss Clendinning organised a surprise visit from Rango, a beautiful chameleon.
During Rango’s visit we asked Mrs McVinnie lots of questions and applied our learning in class to discuss why and how Rango could use his ability to change colour in the wild for protection and survival.
Mrs McVinnie kindly allowed us to hold Rango and some of us even allowed him to walk up our arms!! Miss Clendinning was not so brave!!!
A special thank you to Mrs McVinnie for bringing Rango in and huge apologies from Miss Clendinning to any parents who are now being hounded to buy a chameleon!!
For the last few weeks Primary 7 have been busy learning their extracts from Tam O’Shanter for the annual P7 Burns Competition.
The children have worked extremely hard to learn the pieces, as well as applying their drama skills, using facial expressions and actions, to retell the story.
They were also challenged with choosing a scene from the poem to collage. The children used a variety of materials to create some wonderful finished pieces, which can be seen below.
On Thursday 16th February, Mr Cathro came to judge both the poetry and collage competitions. Our winners were as follows:
Poetry
1st – Leon Pipe
2nd – Orrin Carson
3rd – Sam McKnight
Collage
1st – Molly Boynton
2nd – Tamzin Jolley
3rd – Kerrie Pendleton
Miss Clendinning, Mrs Burn and Mrs Duncan were all very proud of all of the children for their effort. Well done everyone!!!
