Primary 1 25.8.20

Primary 1 are having a lovely week so far.
We are continuing our work on emotions and this week have learnt about feeling calm and love. The children have thought about different situations when they feel calm and some people and pets that they love. We will continue to discuss our feelings daily in class and will be encouraging children to find ways of managing them.
This week we are beginning our work on number. We will be learning how to count out and write neatly the numbers 0, 1 and 2. Please practise these numbers at home. Number 2 can be especially hard for children to write neatly.
We are also learning to hold a pencil correctly as we write letters and numbers. Please practise this at home, perhaps by writing your child’s name neatly a few times.
A reminder that we do outdoor PE on a Tuesday and Wednesday. Please send your child to school dressed for taking part in physical activity in the playground these days. It is also helpful to send a named water bottle in case your child get thirsty.
Thank you for all your support, please contact the office if we can be of any assistance.
Miss Daun and Miss Christy

Primary 1 and Primary 2/1 18.8.20

It has been lovely welcoming all the new Primary 1 children to school over the past week and seeing the Primary 2s return. The children are settling in well to school and are picking up routines quickly. At the moment we are encouraging the children to develop their friendships and social skills through lots of games and play activities. We are also learning about our feelings and emotions, using the story of ‘The Colour Monster’ by Anna Llenas. We are discussing different situations which make us feel different emotions and how we can manage our emotions well.
Tomorrow (Wednesday) will be the children’s first outdoor PE session with Mrs Ferguson. Please send your child to school dressed for PE. PE kit consists of a white T-shirt and black or navy shorts or trousers. Please make sure that your child has shoes they can run around in and a named water bottle to take outside with them. It is helpful if all clothes are named clearly.
Thank you for all your support so far. Please contact us if you have any questions or concerns. We can be contacted through the school office.

Primary 1 23.6.20

Good morning Primary 1
How are you all? Can you believe that it’s the last Tuesday you’ll ever have as a Primary 1? This week you will be getting a letter telling you who your new teacher will be and about what your school week should look like. Therefore, we thought this would be a good opportunity for you to talk to the adults at home about what you are looking forward to in Primary 2, what you are nervous about and how you think Primary 2 will be different from Primary 1.
Listen to the PowerPoint below which talks about how school will be different due to COVID19 and then talk through the discussion points below.

transition to p2

Questions to discuss:
– What differences do you expect to see in the Primary 2 classroom?
– Where do you think you will hang up your coat?
– Where will you come into school as a Primary 2?
– What would you like to learn in Primary 2?
– What are you most excited about in Primary 2?
– What are you most nervous about in Primary 2?
– Who are you excited to play and learn with again?

Have a lovely day.

Primary 1 19.6.20

Good morning Primary 1

I hope that you have had a great time this week taking part in our Sports Day at home. I can’t wait to find out which house has won! If you haven’t already, please remember to update the online form with your score from each event. Here is a link to the spreadsheet:

What was your favourite activity?

Are there any you want to try again?

Why don’t you create your own sports day activities for your family to try over the weekend? Think about fun sports you can do in your back garden or in your Living room. You might want to see who can balance on 1 leg the longest or see who can hop the fastest around the garden? Remember you will need to keep scores and create a prize for the winner.

You can also log your information on Get Set Tokyo. Well done Primary 1, we met our target last week!!!

https://www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo

Alternatively, why don’t you try some of these super exercise videos in your house? It is so important to exercise every day: it keeps our heart healthy, our bones strong and stops us getting sick.

Have a lovely day and a fantastic weekend.
Miss Christy, Miss Daun and Miss Cunningham

Primary 1 16.6.20

Hello Primary 1.
How are you all? Are you keeping safe and healthy? Remember that this week is our sports day at home. We hope that you are managing to complete lots of the fun activities and are logging your efforts on the spreadsheet. I wonder which house will win?

This week we will be considering Article 2 for our Rights Respecting Schools Award. This article is all about discrimination. That is a big word which means that people are treated differently because of the way they look, speak, act or because of the place they live. That doesn’t seem fair, does it? We need to treat everyone kindly, the way that we would like to be treated. Have a little look at the slide below and try to complete one of these activities over the next few days.

There is a video linked on the slide. It tells the story of a flamingo who didn’t want to be pink anymore. By the end of the story she has learnt that everyone is beautiful in their own way and that we should celebrate our differences.

Thank you to everyone who is continuing to stay in contact with us through the Learning Journal, we love seeing all the fun things you are getting up to! If you have any questions about the activities or about your child’s learning then please get in touch, we are more than happy to help in whatever way we can.
Have a lovely day.
Miss Christy, Miss Daun and Miss Cunningham

Primary 1 11.6.20

Good morning
We hope that you are having a lovely week and are managing to complete some of the activities we set for you on Monday.
Each morning, Glasgow Science Centre are posting a live science lesson on their website. These lessons are great and cover a wide variety of topics. If you have time today, we would like you to watch the lesson from last Friday. In it, you will learn all about minibeasts and the differences between humans and invertebrates. After watching the lesson, why don’t you go outside either into a garden or a local green space and count the minibeasts you can see? Can you count them using tally marks?

GSC-At-Home-Bug-count (This is a bug count worksheet you can print out, alternatively, you could write 4 or 5 types of minibeast in your jotter and write the number you count beside it).

Mini beasts are important on a farm. They provide food for some animals, help to spread pollen to different plants and put nutrients back into the soil.
Bugs like to live in lots of different places and we can help to build them a safe home in our gardens. Here are some ways you can give bugs a helping hand…
– When clearing away dead plants in your garden, why don’t you keep some stems aside in a little bundle for minibeasts to live in?
– During your daily walk, can you find some dead woods or leaves for bugs to live in?
– If you are feeling very adventurous, you could make a bug hotel in your garden. Here are some photos of great examples you might want to copy.

As always, please don’t feel any pressure to do these additional tasks. They are only suggestions for if you are stuck for something to do! We hope that you are all keeping safe and healthy and that you are enjoying some family time after your school work is finished.
We are missing you lots

Primary 1 3.6.20

Good morning Primary 1! Happy Wednesday.

We hope that you are all keeping safe and well and that you are enjoying completing the work set as well as having some time to play.
Are you managing to get outside for some exercise each day? If you get a chance we would love it if you could continue to log your exercise through this website: https://www.getset.co.uk/travel-tokyo

Today we would like you to have a look at the next Article from the Rights Respecting Schools Award. Thank you to everyone who has completed these tasks so far and posted photos of their work on the Learning Journals. We are using these photos as evidence which we will put towards our re-accreditation attempt later in the year.
This week’s article is number 19: protection from violence, abuse and neglect. At the Primary 1 level we will be focusing on people who protect us and keep us safe in our everyday life. Why don’t you watch and sing the ‘Bounceback’ song to start thinking about ways to cope when things go wrong and about people who help us.

You are welcome to do any of the activities in the slide below, however, here are 2 that I think the Primary 1s would enjoy:
1. Can you create a poster showing some of the rules put in place to keep you safe? Your poster could display rules to stay safe in the garden, in the classroom, at the swimming pool, in a car etc. Choose 1 place and draw or write 3 or 4 rules that you try to keep.
2. There are many people all around us whose job is to keep you safe. Draw or write a list of some of these people in your jotter and talk to an adult about some of the things these people do to keep you safe.

We hope that you are getting on well with all the activities posted in the learning grids on Monday. If you have any questions about the activities or about your child’s learning then please get in touch.
Have a lovely day.

Primary 1 29.5.20

Good morning Primary 1s! Happy Friday!

We hope that you have had a lovely week and that you have found time both to complete some school work and also to get out into the sunshine to play and exercise.

It is important to keep active so that our bodies remain fit and healthy. We know that lots of you are going outside and are enjoying long walks and cycles with your family. Sometimes it is also fun to exercise inside. We have found a few farming related dances and yoga workouts we would like you to try. Have a go at a few of them and let us know which is your favourite!

We hope that you are all keeping safe and and healthy. Thank you for all the hard work you are doing at home, you are making us very proud teachers. We miss you and keep up the great work.

Primary 1 26.5.20

Good morning Primary 1s!
How are you all? We hope that you are keeping well and are managing to have some fun as well as complete some work. The weather forecast is lovely for the whole week and so we hope that you are able to get outside each day to play and enjoy the sunshine. Today we would like you to continue working through the learning grids we posted yesterday.
We have also created a ‘word boost’ story for you to listen to today at some point. Maybe you could stop for ‘milk and story’ midway through the morning like we do in school? The story is called Grandad’s farm and is all about a girl called Jaz who visits her Grandad’s farm to help out.

Grandad’s Farm story and word boost

As you listen can you look out for the words:
– sowing
– mucking out
– coop
– free range
– cultivator
These are all farming related words and will deepen your understanding of farms and the life of a farmer. At the end of the PowerPoint I will explain what each of the words means but why don’t you have a think about if you have heard them before and have a guess at their meaning before listening.

When you open the link you will be taken to the Powerpoint, click on  view slideshow from the beginning and after a few seconds I will start reading the story. We suggest that you listen to the story twice, once to get an understanding of what happens and to hear the ‘word boost’ words and their definitions, and a second time when you can try to spot the words as they are read.

Have a lovely day boys and girls and we can’t wait to see some pictures on the Learning Journals later of all the fun things you have got up to.

Primary 1’s wonderful work

We have been so impressed by the wonderful work Primary 1 have been doing this week (can you notice the alliteration?). Here are some of the highlights…

Lots of you have also enjoyed getting out in the sunshine both for exercise and to help in the garden.

Thank you for all the pictures you continue to send in. We love seeing your smiling faces and are so proud of the work you are managing at home.

Keep it up!

Primary 1 21.5.20

Good morning Primary 1.
How are you all? The Primary 1 teachers are still missing you lots and wish we could be back in school together. It is great to see all the photos you are sharing of the work being done at home. You are making us very proud teachers! Keep up the great work and please continue to post your photos on the Learning Journals.
Ms Fox has created some learning activities you might want to try to help develop your art skills while you are at home. She is missing working with you and wants you to continue to practise drawing different objects and things you see in your everyday life. Here are some of the suggestions she gives:
1. On your daily walk you could pick up a leaf, flower or interesting object to draw when you return from your walk, or draw these items from your garden or from your window.

Here are some interesting objects I have found on my walks:

2. Do a drawing of your back garden or of your house from the outside, or a drawing of your favourite room in the house.
3. Draw a member of your family.
4. Draw a pet, or an animal or bird that you see on your daily walk. You could always ask your parents or guardians to take a photograph for you to make it easier
5. Create a poster of the things that you think about when you think of ‘Summer’. This could include the word ‘Summer’ in bubble writing so that you can decorate inside the letters. You may wish to include a picture of the sun, flowers growing, leaves on the trees, cold drinks or salads, your favourite summer outfit, the games that you like to play in summertime (tennis, badminton, pass the ball, running, etc). Your poster should be ablaze with summery colours and drawings.
The most important thing here is that you are practicing your drawing skills no matter what you draw and most of all, that you have fun!!
We will share any photos of your drawings with Ms Fox. I know she will love seeing your super work!
Keep working hard and as always please get in contact if you have any questions.
Miss Christy, Miss Daun and Miss Cunningham

Primary 1 15.5.20

Good Morning Primary 1s!
I hope that you are all keeping well. I have some very exciting news. This morning I came into my kitchen to make my breakfast and there was a trail of glitter and a brown letter sitting in the middle of the floor. Can you guess who the letter is from? I’ll attach a picture of it to the blog and you can read it and find out what it says…

Have a lovely weekend and remember that Monday is a holiday so there will be no new work posted until Tuesday.
The Primary 1 teachers

Primary 1 12.5.20

Good morning Primary 1s

Today is Mardi. Can you say that? Have a look outside the window and see if you can describe the weather in French. Here are some helpful phrases:

Quel temps fait-il?  (What is the weather like?)

Il fait beau (It is nice)

Il fait froid (it is cold)

Il fait gris (it is grey)

Il fait chaud (it is hot)

Il pleut (it’s raining)

Il neige (it’s snowing)

If you want a reminder of how to say some of these words and some alternative phrases, this video will help

There are a lot more phrases in this video than we would normally teach, but it is helpful to listen to French being spoken to understand pronunciation. Have a go repeating the French phrases and don’t worry if you can’t remember them all!

Today, if you have time, we would like you to have a look at this video

It is a super music lesson where you will learn to create different rhythms. The teachers had a go and found it really tricky! Hopefully you can do better than us!

We hope that you have a lovely day. Please remember that although school work is important, it is more important that you are keeping happy and safe.

Thank you for all your continued support.

Primary 1 11.5.20

Good morning boys and girls and welcome to a new week!
We hope that you all had a nice weekend and managed to spend some time with your family having fun. What was the favourite thing that you did? All 3 teachers had a busy weekend in their kitchens! Miss Daun tried a new recipe from her cook book, and both Miss Cunningham and Miss Christy made cookies!

This week we will be revising a sound we have looked at before… ck. It is always helpful to go back to sounds we have learned previously to make sure we fully understand them. As in previous weeks, your reading book and associated activities will be sent in a separate email. Here are the literacy activities for this week:

Literacy Week 6

Blending using ck

Roll and read

In maths, we are continuing our work on time. This week we will begin to tell half past times. You might want to get out your home made clock again to help you practise? Here are the maths activities:

Primary 1 7.5.20

Good Morning Primary 1s!
We hope that you are all well! What a beautiful day we had yesterday, we hope that you managed to get outside and have some fun. The teachers all loved getting outside after work yesterday, Miss Christy went for a long cycle in the countryside, Miss Daun went for a run once it had cooled down a bit and Miss Cunningham went for a lovely walk.
Yesterday, we posted some new learning grids for you to work through. Try to do at least 3 of these activities today at some point and remember to post photos of your super work on the Learning Journals. It is so lovely seeing your work every day!
Before we moved to online learning we had started our ‘Fairyland’ topic. As always, we have created a SWAY to show this learning and we have added in a few photos from your work at home too! The link to the SWAY will be posted in your Learning Journal later this morning. Have a look to see if you can spot yourself in any of the photos!

The Rights Respecting School Article of the week is Article 7, the right to a name and nationality. Why don’t you have a discussion about why you chose the name for your child and maybe other names you had been considering? Talk about nationalities, about the country you come from and how you identify with that nation. The slide below gives some ideas of other activities you might want to try…

I particularly like the ‘identity hand’ task. Draw around your hand and write your name, date of birth, home country and 2 adults who help you on the fingers, then draw the flag of where you call home on the palm. We would love to see some of your hand prints on the Learning Journals.
The video link is

It takes you to a story called ‘The name jar’. This is a story about a Korean girl who is learning about her name and identity as she moves to a new country. After watching the video talk about

– Why does the girl want to change her name?
– How do you think she feels when people make fun of her name?
– What would you do if you saw someone making fun of someone else’s name?
– What name does she end up with?

Remember, the activities we post daily on the blog are optional extras, please feel no pressure to complete them!
We hope that you have a lovely day!
