Healthy P2s

Last week Primary 2s were focussing on healthy and unhealthy food as part of our topic: Keeping Happy, Healthy and Safe.  We made fruit kebabs – a very healthy snack! We had good fun cutting up all the fruit, although we had to make sure we were using the knife safely and that our hands were clean.

P3s Assembly – Light and Dark

P3s entertained pupils in P1-3 today with their assembly on Light and Dark.  They did an amazing job of sharing their learning with others.  Their super audience were able to recognise many of the school values in their performance.  Stating that they were like ‘Le

o the Learning Lion’, ‘Resilient Super Rabbit’, ‘Enjoyment George the Penguin’, ‘Kate the Confident Unicorn’ and ‘Robbie the Respectful Owl’.

We hope you agree…………….

Parent Council Fundraising

For many years the Parent Council have organised many events for families. These have been to provide our school community with family events and to fundraise. The fundraising is vital and provides an opportunity to purchase larger more expensive items that the school budget simply couldn’t afford.

We are absolutely thrilled to share the photos below with you. These new blinds were recently purchased by the Parent Council for the school. They are now in 6 classrooms at a cost of £4400.

The new blinds, as well giving the classrooms a lift, are ensuring the light is kept out so that learners can see the interactive whiteboards clearly.

We are extremely grateful to our supportive Parent Council for this kind donation.

#ScotArt

#ScotArt is a nationwide youth engagement project taking place across Scotland to mark the Year of Young People 2018 drawing to a close.

Throughout Autumn 2018, Young Champions will lead #ScotArt workshops with young people aged 8 – 26 years in 14 regions of Scotland. Working alongside lead artist, Ariel Killick, young people in the 14 regions of Scotland will each choose a symbol to represent their area which Ariel and young artists will make into wicker sculptures. The workshop in Shetland will take place on:

Date: Saturday 17 November

Time: 1100 – 1600

Venue: Islesburgh Complex

Cost: FREE

Sign Up: Email your name and age to youthservices@shetland.gov.uk

The wicker sculptures will be displayed on the High Street in Edinburgh from 21 – 29 December, the wicker sculptures will lead the Torchlight Procession and come together on Holyrood Park to create a spectacular finale marking the end of the Year of Young People 2018. Participants will also be able to make their own wicker heart.

Christine Johnson #ScotArt Young Champion and Year of Young People Ambassador said, “The Year of Young a People celebrations has been a great opportunity for young people to get involved with a variety of different events and opportunity. As an ambassador I’ve been lucky in taking part in many of these and would encourage you to get involved with ScotArt. I am excited about the ScotArt project because the image/symbol that we decide upon at this event will become one of the 14 national sculptures that will be shown at the Royal Mile in Edinburgh at the Hognamay celebrations! So your input will be very valuable in creating this wicker sculpture.”
