Remembrance Day 2021
Today primary seven visited the Shetland War Memorial for Remembrance Day. Whilst there pupils took part in acts of remembrance including a two minute silence, poetry reading and laying stones they had decorated with symbols of remembrance.
Pupils then had a chance to explore and record some the names on the war memorial. They were very interested and keen to find out if any of their ancestors names were included. We plan to look at the WW1 Roll of Honour next week, to find out more details about the servicemen.

P7 Water Safety
This term, primary seven were treated to a demonstration of a sea rescue by the coastguard and police. This involved a coastguard volunteer being rescued from the sea at the Sletts. Primary seven learnt lots about water safety and the role of the coastguard. They found this extremely informative and were able to use their knowledge and understanding of this to create water safety posters. Primary seven now all feel confident about the procedure for contacting the coastguard in an emergency. Many thanks to the coastguard and the police for this very interesting experience.
