Homework 14/12/15

Numeracy Challenge

Can you plan and cost the price of Christmas dinner for your family? What is the best value for money you have found?

  • Write a list of all the items you need for your family Christmas dinner. (Don’t forget drinks and crackers!)
  • Research how much the items cost – you can do this online or with an adult if you are in the shops.
  • Identify what is best value for money. Were all of the items from the same shop or would you have to go to different shops?
  • Include a conclusion detailing what you have found.

Literacy Challenge

Can you write a Christmas poem? Using everything you have learned so far, choose your own structure to follow and create a poem!

  • Choose your structure (repetitive, Haiku, ‘I Am’, acrostic…)
  • Describe Christmas and what it means to you
  • Make clear stanzas
  • Include a metaphor or simile
  • Include personification
  • Choose appropriate punctuation
  • Illustrate your poem

IDL Challenge

This will be our last homework blog for this year! I would like to thank everyone for their hard work and for the many homework items I have seen where the effort made by primary seven pupils has been clear. I wish everyone a safe and wonderful Christmas together and look forward to our first homework blog after New Year.

Homework 30/11/15

Numeracy

We have been developing our understanding of the cost of items that we buy and profit and loss. To help us do this we have calculated the overall cost for our Jelly Bean Reindeer that we made for the Christmas Fayre. We have been able to identify the best value between all of the jelly beans that we priced. We then calculated the profit or loss that was made by selling them.

Ideas for further practise at home:

Literacy

Reading: Prediction – We have been revising prediction in our reading. We have been learning to note down some clues that we find in the text to help us make accurate predictions and use them when writing our own.

Writing: Poetry – In class we have been learning about structuring a poem. We created a poem describing ourselves where we had been given an exact structure to follow; this helped us to create our verses.

Spelling: sounds created by ____ed  – We have been identifying the three different sounds that are produced when ed is added to a word. We have been able to identify the ‘t’, ‘ed’ and ‘d’ sounds in our spelling words, for example in stopped (t), needed (ed) and covered (d)

Charles Rennie Mackintosh – Where?

Ideas for further practise at home:

  • Identify some of the famous buildings Charles Rennie Mackintosh has worked on. Do you recognise any parts of the designs?
  • Can you create a new school badge in the style of Charles Rennie Mackintosh?

Remember you can use your thinking jotter to record any thoughts or ideas you have when looking at these topics and I would love to see anything you create at home!
