Homework 9/5/16

Numeracy

We have been calculating percentages of amounts and identifying any links that will make this easier for us. E.g. 18% of 100 = 18 therefore 18% of 50 = 9 and 18% of 25 = 4.5

Ideas for further practise at home:

Literacy

Reading: Inference – We have been exploring what inference is and identifying information from different sources: pictures, sounds and writing.

Writing: Reports – We have been developing our skills in writing reports and using them to write about biodiversity.

Spelling: plural words ending in ‘f’ – We have been learning what to do if a words ends with f. E.g. half = halves or roof = roofs

Shadow

Today in class we were looking at chapter two of shadow. We did comprehension questions that we got from the high school. We had to use three different success criterias such as : words from the question, your own words to explain, words from the text – evidence. We did this work for our showcase jotters as it is showcase week.

Today we were writing a report about Biodiversity. We used facts that we gathered from a video last week and put it in our report. We made a flow chart to order our information. We included a introduction and a conclusion too. We wrote a paragraph for each main area in biodiversity- Species diversity, genetic diversity and Eco system diversity.

Homework 25/4/16

Numeracy

We have been revising what we know about fractions and decimals and have been learning how to convert decimals into percentages. We are moving on to calculating fractions and percentages of amounts.

Ideas for further practise at home:

Literacy

Reading: Summarising – We have been revising how to summarise a piece of text we have read.

Writing: Reports – We have been exploring report writing in class, identifying the main features that should be included in every report.

Spelling: plural words ending in ‘y’ – We have been learning when to add ‘s’ and when to take off the y and add ‘ies’. E.g. donkey = donkeys and factory = factories

Science – Biodiversity

We have been investigating what biodiversity is and are learning about how ecosystems and habitats shape the biodiversity that is found there. In class we have also begun to identify why biodiversity in our local area is important.

Ideas for further practise at home:

  • Can you identify the different habitats that can be found close to your home? Create a map showing these habitats and where they are.
  • Why not identify the biodiversity that can be found in one of these habitats? Remember to include ALL creatures from the birds that visit to the worms and beetles.
