Team work and Communication

This morning we moved seats. To help set up our new team we practiced and developed our communication skills.

In one activity, we had to give instructions to a blindfolded teammate about where the foam balls were.  We learned that everyone speaking at once doesn’t work and that your instructions need to be clear!

We also did a lego challenge where each person in the team had a specific role to follow – architect, builder, supplier and we had to communicate information to the other people so that we could design and build a house.

Homework week beginning 9th January

Language

Read the first pages of your new book!

Seekers – Pg 1 – 41

Dragonfire – Pg 9 – 45

The hundred mile an hour dog = Pg 1 -34

Make notes about the main events and characters while you read.

Choose one scene and make a comic strip to show what happened.

Maths

We are starting a new topic of fractions, decimals and percentages. This week we will be recapping what we know about fractions and decimals and exploring how to apply this to percentages as we go on.

For homework – find a fraction or a percentage in your house and bring it in. This could be in a newspaper, on food packaging, in a magazine etc.

Here is a link to the recipe and video or how to make it.

We are very confident with creating organised instructions with top tips and advice for the person following them.

After we made the marshmallows, we created a brilliant wall display of the marshmallows roasting on a fire!

Here is a link to a video of us making the marshmallows! Why not give it a try at home.

Xmas Factor

This morning was the Xmas factor by the Primary 7s.

Unfortunately we forgot to take photos/videos of the performances!

However, it was an amazing show and the children did a brilliant job, both as performers, hosts and judges. Well done

I do however, have a picture of this awesome present that Derek bought me, which we played in class. Thanks!

In ICT we were using the Scratch coding programme to create winter and Nativity scenes. You can see the instructions on the right hand side of the screens.

We were writing to persuade potential customers to apply for our credit cards by offering incentives, financial rewards and competitive rates of interest.

This afternoon we were practising social dancing with P6/7. We are getting better all the time but need to remember to move around as we are following the steps.

Tuesday 29th and Homework

Homework for week beginning 29.11.16

Language

We are developing our persuasive writing skills and our ability to give our opinion about what we have read/watched/heard. This means you have to decide what you think and justify it with examples, comparisons (eg similes and metaphors) and facts.

For homework

  • Watch “planet earth” on BBC iplayer or on BBC1 on Sunday night at 8pm. Take notes about one animal which you think is the most interesting. Create a persuasive argument about why that animal is the most interesting.
  • We are exploring –ist words (words related to what what someone/something does). Create at least 6 word scrambles for a partner to unscramble.

Maths

We are learning about debit and credit cards. We are exploring the difference between money we already have and money we are borrowing (and the costs associated with the borrowing).

For homework

  • Design your own credit card – make sure you include the interest rate, how long the “interest free” period is, any rewards and what the penalty is if you pay it back late.
    • If you want to play a game with money and percentages, try this http://www.mrcrammond.com/games/percentages.swf
  • Continue to practice your money skills on these games
  • Design a special offer for the following items
    • A bike worth £399
    • A car worth £9,500
    • A box of tea worth £2.59

Today we were learning about Credit Cards! we explored the different types of credit cards, the terms and conditions, the rewards available and the penalties if you don’t repay the money.

img_4460

We used www.moneysavingexpert.com to find out the essential information about the different types of cards.

img_4469

We also planned the prices for our class shop. We are setting up the shop tomorrow and are going to be keeping a record of our spending in a bank statement.

img_4468

Finally, we wrote persuasive letters to Tesco to help persuade them to involve us in the “bags of help” grant in the Town center to get up to £5,000 for outdoor learning equipment.

Tuesday and Wednesday learning

Today we were learning to dance in time with the music!

We were learning about the tradition of Scottish Country dancing by learning the steps of the Gay Gordons and the Dashing White Sergeant.

In French we have been applying what we know about introducing ourselves to each other, about numbers and about the French alphabet to the context of meeting someone for the first time.

img_4228

In  ICT we were creating labels for the Christmas Fayre cookie jars. We had to make the writing small and clear but also colourful and Christmassy!

In Maths, we have been learning about bank statements. We have been following instructions for money in and money out. We have been applying our previous learning about decimals and number bonds to help us keep track of our balance.

Finally, we are delivering a Kilbowie assembly tomorrow so we have been creating pictures and banners to display it!
