Tuesday 7th March

We have been learning about DNA!

We have learned that DNA is the recipe for life – it controls what we look like, who we are and how healthy we might be.

We have explored different traits which we have inherited from our parents and worked out who’s trait we got eg hair colour, tongue roller or straight/bent thumb.

Talk to someone in your family about different traits that you could have inherited from them and who’s traits you can see the most clearly.

If yo want to know more, here are some other useful links to watch and read.

We have also been learning about estimating angles.

Finally, we have decorated some of our planes for the WW2 wall display with smoke and bombs! They look epic!

homework

Homework week beginning 6.3.17

Fairtrade Maths

Fairtrade products often cost slightly more than non-fairtrade products. Sometimes it’s a little bit more and sometimes it’s a lot more. This means that the farmer gets more money so their life is better and they can provide a better life for their family.

Go to the shop or go online to Tesco, ASDA, Sainsburys websites and find the price difference between the Fairtrade and non-Fairtrade versions of the same item.

For example, if you search for “Fairtrade” on tesco.com, there are 109 products.

Find the difference for these products. What is the total difference?

  • Ice cream (Ben and Jerry’s is Fairtrade)
  • Coffee
  • Tea
  • Chocolate
  • Bananas
  • Rice (some supermarkets don’t sell Fairtrade rice)
  • Cocoa or hot chocolate

Language

Read up to the pages on the language wall (or further if you want). Choose a character from the book that you would like to write a short story about. Write a short story about that character/Characters. Your story needs to be influenced by the things you already know about the character – their personality, where they live, what they do, who the other characters in their lives are. Maximum 1000 words! You need to plan it so that your whole story happens before 1000 words.

Well done to everyone, the shelters showed great creativity, effort and skill.

In ICT we were exploring a new computer program called “Kodu”.

We had to explore the program to work out how to build a place, create characters and make them move.

Finally, Katy got a book from the library of ww2 poems and read one for the class.

lundi le vingt sept février

This morning the Baldy Bane company delivered a very interesting and thought-provoking presentation about road safety.

The pupils had the opportunity to direct scenes so that outcomes of the scene were different and more successful.

Tomorrow is Mardi Gras. We learnt a little about the festival today as part of French. If you can, have a look at the carnivals in Nice and New Orleans.
