Leatherback turtles!

Today we had a workshop from the Marine Conservation Society who are campaigning for a “deposit buyback” scheme for all plastic, glass and tin bottles/cans.

They taught us all about leather back turtles, including what they eat, where they live, how they live and how our waste effects them.

We are going to take part in the scheme to try to persuade the Scottish government to introduce a deposit buyback scheme to help reduce the amount of waste that ends up in the ocean.

As part of our homework, we have been researching news stories and sharing them with the class. Here are a couple of examples (sorry, Erin, your one didn’t record properly)

Anyone still to do their homework, here is an interesting news article you could look at!

Homework

For homework we are starting a new optional challenge called “THE BIG QUESTION!”

This week the big question is

What happened on D-Day?

The more detail you can include, the better your answer.

Language

Finish your reading book. You have two weeks to do this. After you have finished it, we will be reviewing the book in class.

Choose a current news article and write a short news report to share it with the class. You will maximum 60 seconds to talk!

In particular , this news report about Vera Lynn may be interesting to you – http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2017/03/20/dame-vera-lynns-image-projected-onto-white-cliffs-dover-mark/

Maths

Each child has been given a list of different homework they can do related to time. You can choose exactly which of these you do. Record which ones you do in your homework jotter.

Active learn – I have added lots of time activities and some algebra activities for you to work through – the more you do, the more you will know!

Team building

We have moved to new seats and as a result are building new teams.

The most important things during this are that everyone at the group is included, everyone is treated with respect and that we are able to work together to achieve a common goal.

The first thing we had to achieve was to create a team handshake!

We have also designed and created group mascots.

Wednesday

Today in Maths we continued our time games competition!

The record of 4250 points was beaten and now sits at 4750 with a maximum score of 5000 possible!

In language we were continuing to read non-fiction books with a focus on finding information quickly and efficiently.

Remember – for science tomorrow bring in a bottle of tap water from your house! we are going to test the different types of water to see what the differences are!

Tuesday

Today we were exploring the different types of plants and animals in the area around the school.
We found 6 different plants with flowers on them and we even found some of our bees feeding on a tree up beside the peace garden.

We also hung out bird feeders for birds in the local area.

In maths we have started a topic on time. We are identifying what time skills we are confident with and which ones we need more practice on

Persuasive adverts!

This morning, we had to sell Mr McMullan everyday objects. We only had 30 seconds to sell them to him and we had to make sure we included

  • positive things the product does
  • The price with a special offer
  • how it can make my life better.

We recorded the sales pitches but we are having technical problems uploading them. We will try again tomorrow.

In reading, we have been learning about DNA and about using a punnett square to work out the different possible combinations of DNA you can pass on to your children.

We have also been learning about “Peace Makers” such as Nelson Mandela and Raoul Wallenberg

Finally, our WW2 blitz display is starting to look great!
