Developing the Young Workforce

For Developing the Young Workforce, we looked at the Emergency Services.  We researched what some of the different jobs were in the police, fire, ambulance and lifeboat services.  We discussed what these involved and the skills required.  Some of us may even consider a future career in the Emergency Services.

Active Maths and the RNLI

This morning the boys and girls participated in more active maths. We demonstrated our skills and applied our number bonds and number compliment skills. This will help us as we move on to work with larger numbers.

This afternoon children were learning about the RNLI and their role as emergency responders. They looked at the history of the RNLI examined the impact cold shock response has on the body and how to overcome it.

We finished off by creating Sea Rescue comic strips.

Active Maths in P6/7

Today Primary 6/7 engaged in active maths.

They were learning how to divide by 10, 100 and 1000.

They also worked on achieving good accuracy and increasing their speed when answering numeracy and multiplication questions.

Mr Green very impressed with your effort and explaining your answers to highlighting your learning.

Novel

Today we started a new class novel called Holes. It’s a very unusual book. We wonder how the story will unfold!

We were also  developing our knowledge of multiplication and division. We looked at the relationship between the numbers and how multiplication facts can help us with division facts.

Tuesday 22.09.20

Primary 6/7 worked on answering word problems using their place value skills.

After that we looked at items to include in our Agents of Rights Tool kit.

We thought about what each item could represent and how we can use them to show people how they help us remember our rights.

Today Primary 6/7 were developing their maths skill by working on numbers up to 10,000,000 After that the boys and girls were writing a story based on the Cool Class Cup treat yesterday. They had to imagine the next part of the story but were only allowed to use 100 words.

The children worked in teams again during outdoor PE. They had to repeat and recognise a pattern using cones and organise their team to achieve success.

Meet The Teacher

Due to the Covid 19 pandemic it is impossible to have the usual Woodlands Meet the Teacher event. Instead I have made a short video telling you about some of the things we have been working in Primary 6/7B.

I hope you enjoy it.

At home children should try and read for at least 20 minutes each night. This will expose them to new vocabulary and new ideas. Furthermore logging on daily to Sumdog and playing the maths games will help them develop and apply their maths skills.
