Wednesday 1st November 2017!

Today we were learning to use empty number lines by using them to add the total of a receipt. Here is some epic photos of them:

Also in maths we learned to  use negative numbers in empty number lines. We learned to count on and back using take away and adding.

Then we did a times table battle for our TT skills.

After break we were finishing our OL logos.

In literacy today we were predicting the meaning of tricky words.

We played a game, guessing what different tricky words mean.

Then after lunch we went to Greenfaulds High School to do P.E.

Negative number games

As part of our maths today, we noticed that we needed extra practice with negative numbers.

Here are a selection of negative number games to play with.

PRACTICE PRACTICE PRACTICE!

Tuesday 31st October 2017

This Morning

Mrs Rutherford came in and told us more about Buddhism, Hinduism and Sikhism

After that, we had a French spelling test to see how many french colors we knew how to spell(we got 2 points for every word  we spelled right 1 point for close to the word)

After break we drew a family and were told what type of hair that we had to draw and what color it was in French. We also where told to do the same with eyes. After  French we did some gourdie  handwriting we had to write our spelling words in the gourdie handwriting.

In language we were using the skill of Inference to work out extra information that wasn’t written in the text.

After lunch we we were learning a new maths topic called “bridging and adjusting”

Bridging and adjusting is when you draw out what goes on inside your brain when you are adding, subtracting or finding the difference between two numbers.

Here is what we did in maths

After maths we went outside to plant some daffodils bulbs around the edges of the grass we were doing it for the outdoor learning competition.

After that we designed a logo for the outdoor learning competition.

Unless the weather is really badtomorrow (Tuesday) we will be going outside to garden so could all children please bring outdoor shoes/boots and a jacket.

If you see this and are talking to anyone else in the class, could you please tell them as well!

Thank you

Homework week beginning 30.10.17

Homework week beginning 30.10.17

Language

As part of our language work, we are retrieving important information from a large piece of text and summarising it.

For homework, watch “blue planet” on iplayer and choose at least one of the animals featured. Take notes as you are watching it on the animal and then create a summary of the information.

This could be a powerpoint/keynote/audio recording/mind map/information leaflet. We have covered all of these in class this year already, so you know how to do them!

here is the link – it’s on iplayer

Maths

Today we are starting “bridging and adjusting” as a way of doing mental calculations. We are using empty number lines for these. Draw an empty number line for the following sums.

28+36 =                       44+36 =                       52+49 =

100 – 65 =                   160 – 80 – 20 – 4  =           500 – 152 =

Extra challenge

2.3 + 4.8 + 2.1 =                           5.7 x 2 =             12.55 – 3. 60 =

99.9 + 99.9 =                       4.5 x 3 =             20 – 12.75 =

Active learn games are also available for practicing – the school code is “6kwa”

IDL

As our final project for our IDL topic, we are videoing a promotional video for the charity Qhubeka – if you have a part that needs a costume can you bring it in asap so we can start videoing!

Note!

For all the children ( which should be everybody) that done there homework last week, They will know that they where meant to make a PowerPoint/keynote about yoga and then send it to Mr McMullan by email but their was no email on the blog so this is the email.

Happy Monday (30/ 10/ 17)

At the start of the day we where learning how to retrieve important information from our books.

Here is some of our amazing minds map these helped us to find the most important information from the text.

Here are this weeks new spelling words  they are difficult because we have to sound the words out and decide wether they have DGE or GE at the end

After break we were straight away to assembly there was two groups one of the groups went to the lunch hall to practice the choir.

Whilst the other group where in assembly

Here is a photo of some children enjoying assembly.

After lunch we had a visit from the SSPCA who taught us about pet care and what the SSPCA does to help neglected and abandoned animals.

fun day in primary 7

This morning we went to I.C.T. and finished  our power points.

here are some power points we made.

after that we went to p.e. with Mr Green and did fitness activities.

After play time we were reading. we read our books the invisible dog,the last wolf, saving Finnegan, jammy dodgers on the run.We were exploring the different features of the text.

For example we found WOW words, connectives, openers and punctuation.

Zoe made epic banners for a good work wall display of our best handwriting.

In maths we were continuing our work on multiplying and dividing by 10, 100 and 1,000.

Finally, after maths we learned about how to say French Halloween words and made decorations for the Halloween disco in French.

See you at the disco tonight!

HARD WORKING DAY IN SCHOOL

Today in maths we were doing very tricky card questions to get our brain warmed up for the day ahead. The questions were extremely hard but we all worked as a team to solve them

Today in ICT we were doing a little bit of maths on the computers. We were practicing our times tables with longer numbers. Then after that we started to practice our french.

We also made a power point we could do a power point about our self or about a famous person and all about them and their lives – we described them in french

eg- Ed Sheeran -J’ai les yeux bleus=i have blue eyes.

After playtime primary 7 started making a letter to Mr Kiernan for his great writing skills he taught us Gourdie handwriting. at first it was pretty hard but primary 7 were able to achieve writing in a different way like Mr Kiernan.

Mr McMullans dad gave primary 7 a parcel it had loads of stuff for the bees. Inside of the parcel was melted bees wax and polish and it was really interesting and it was like no other. it was well better than when primary 7 and Miss Donald’s class tried to melt it but the only thing was that we used old bees wax YUCK!!!

Finally, after lunch, we went to the High School for a PE session! It was excellent fun

Here is some work. this is notes on what we know about Sikhism. In the lesson we were learning to recall facts and information.

After break we did French.

here is what we learned.

we learned to: say, listen, write and hear.

We learned to  say what colour our eyes are in French. Also we learned to say what colour our hair is.

try these activities!

After French we did a spelling test.

Before lunch we read our books.

jammy dogers on the run
the last wolf
saving Finnegan

After lunch we finished reading our book and then went on to  a summary – only 100 words allowed so we had to edit and be concise.

Afterwards everyone did a 7 times table challenge and continued to learn how to multiply and divide by numbers like 10, 100 and 1000.

An extra challenge today was to multiply by number that didn’t have a 1 at the start.

e.g. 9,000 x 6,000,000 = 54,000,000,000

To practice this we can use this epic game!
