Today was a fantastic day – with everyone catching up and getting back into the rhythm of a school day. We started the day with literacy. Focusing on reading, handwriting and spelling.

After break we worked on our skills with linking division to our knowledge of multiplication. We worked with Mr Green, tested our multiplication skills on the laptops and our other maths skills on Sumdog. We finished off in the afternoon with a daily mile and looked at the different jobs engineers do as part of our new project linked to the James Dyson Foundation.
Today we took lots of photos – as you can see, to record some of today’s highlights. The weather was good and we managed not only to complete our reindeer dash, but also to get outside again for some P.E. The best part of the day, however, may just have been the delicious Christmas lunch…thank you, ladies!
In between language and maths today, we enjoyed sharing some of our ‘Showcase Jotter’ work (from previous classes) with each other. It was funny to see how our drawings and writing have changed!
This afternoon we designed and created reindeer antlers for our ‘Reindeer Dash’ tomorrow. We are doing this to raise money for CHAS, the Children’s Hospices Across Scotland.
We continued our focused learning this afternoon. Engaging in the tasks that we selected. We are developing our sequencing and planning skills using media (stop motion animation), creating digital texts (PowerPoints) and practising our drawing and design skills too.
Today we focused on our spelling and learning more about telling the time in minutes past/to the hour. We made a fabulous display of analogue clocks with hands that move. We wrote the time that our hands showed in a digital display too.
We are also making progress in learning BSL for performing our Christmas song.
Today we learned that letters from soldiers in WW1 underwent a process called censorship, which meant that much of what was written in a letter would be scored out before the letter reached the soldiers’ loved ones.
Normally at this time of year we would be learning Christmas songs. Due to the current COVID-19 restrictions, however, we are unable to sing in class. We are therefore learning to ‘sing’ in British Sign Language (BSL).
We have been looking at the different weapons and methods of communication used in World War 1. We looked more in depth at the German ‘ace of aces’ – more commonly known as The Red Baron – and produced fact files, highlighting various points of his life and exploits.
In maths and numeracy, we are continuing to grow in confidence in doing chimney sum addition and learning more about time.
Today we were so delighted that the weather was kind and we could enjoy practising our ball skills outdoors!
Today our main focus was on life in the trenches during WW1. We learned more about what life was like for soldiers of both sides. In language and literacy/our WW1 topic we imagined we were soldiers in the trenches. We wrote letters home to our loved ones, describing life.

In maths we are continuing to practise our column addition.
In health and wellbeing we are learning about the importance of keeping hydrated. We enjoyed talking about our favourite drinks and who makes the teas and coffees in our families!
