Literacy

This week’s spelling words

-ible suffix = this suffix means that you are able to do the thing that the suffix is attached to e.g. audible means you can hear it (audio)

audible, legible, feasible, convertible, flexible, visible, gullible, invincible, responsible, collapsible.

Note – these mean the same thing as –able words but are spelled with an i.

You can do one spelling task a day, plus I have given you a sumdog spelling challenge or if you have an IDLcloud account, you can do a lesson every day!

This week’s French

Revise French colours. If you want to learn colours in a different language that’s great. Why don’t you do a painting/piece of art and label the colours in French.

Warm up task = Stop the bus.

  1. Say the alphabet quietly in your head. Get a partner to say “STOP”. Whatever the letter you were on is the letter for the game.
  2. Choose a word beginning with the letter for the following categories = noun, verb, adjective. Extra challenge = adverb and Proper Noun as well.

Main activity

We have been learning about figurative language, nouns, verbs, adjectives, similes/metaphors, idioms, hyperbole, oxymoron, onomatopoeia and personification.

Read a book in your house and hunt for different examples of these. Compare this with examples you found in your reading book in school last week. Did they have different amounts? Were some easier or harder to find than others?

If you can’t remember what some of these language features are – google them!

Maths

Warm up challenge = 15 minutes sumdog. I have added new topics and questions for you based on previous learning this year.

Main activity

let’s revise negative numbers. Remember, a negative number is less than zero.

Daily word problem

I have 6 cousins. Each of them is married. Two of them have 3 kids, two of them have 1 kid and two of them have no kids.

If invite all of my cousins and their families round for dinner.

How many dinner plates do I need?

Half of my family gets invited to another party and isn’t coming any more. How many people can come for dinner?

Top tip = draw out the family and count the people.

Don’t forget to do some exercise today! I’m going to do 100 squats, 100 sit ups and 100 lunges.

Birdwatching – spring has started and the birds are very active building nests for their eggs. Find a good spot in your house to do bird watching. You could even leave some bird feeders/food out in for them and pay attention for 30 minutes. Record how many of each different type of bird you see.
