House homework competition

Design the honey label competition – Second

To design packaging for a product

  • I can make my label, bright, colourful and clear.
  • I can include a name for our farm, name for the honey, date it was made and nutritional information.
  • I can design a logo for the honey and include a motto.

There will be a winner from each house, plus an overall winner, which will be used for our actual honey jars in the summer.

The four winners will get 2,000, 1,500, 1,000 and 500 respectively. The overall winner will get 4,000 house points.

Designs will be judged on the success criteria.

The children’s entries need to have their name, class and house on it.

You can use this template or design their own – their choice.

If you want to design them on a computer and print them out, that’s fine.

SPEED KILLS!

Today we were calculating the stopping distances for cars travelling at different speeds.

We also measured out the thinking distance before the driver can start to break their car.

In PE we were learning the SMASH in badminton!

For anyone interested in space, check out the “Cassini spacecraft” which has just been sent on a mission to Saturn and has sent amazing photographs back from Saturn and it’s moons.

Space topic

Our space topic is up and running now and we are learning all about how vast our solar system is let alone the rest of the universe!

We are going to be learning about how gravity works, how the density of different planets affects their gravity, the different types of stars and how all these things interact in the universe!

Homework

Week beginning 24th April 2017

Space

We are learning about Space, specifically the different parts of the universe including the solar system, the different planets and their moons and the Milky Way galaxy.

We are going to make a 3-D wall display for space, so you need to design and build your own planet.

It can be based on a real planet, or completely made up. It can have moons or not, it can have aliens or not.

You have until Friday 5th May for this part of the homework.

***Additional homework – research Halley’s Comet

  • Where is it?
  • What is it?
  • What does it do?
  • When will we see it?

Maths

We are finishing off our time topic. You have a worksheet to finish by Friday. If you need help or need me to explain it, bring it in tomorrow.

Active learn – practice 10 minutes per day.

***THE BIG QUESTION***

Why do trees have lots of little leaves and not a couple of big ones?

Best answer wins a prize

Thursday

Today we were exploring how to create words from a selection of letters using the “word cookies” game.

We were extremely good at it so we created our own version for each other!

In ICT we were creating  instructions to show Miss Hannaway how to use the KODU game. Our instructions were short and clear and used specific language.

Space links

We are starting a topic on Space. Here are some great websites to get started learning about it.

Speed distance and time

Today we were learning about how to calculate speed by dividing distance by the the length of time taken.

In PE we raced cars and recorded how long it took to travel a 10 meter course.

Then we calculated the speed at which we can move in different ways eg hopping, running, piggy back.
