Tuesday 29th and Homework

Homework for week beginning 29.11.16

Language

We are developing our persuasive writing skills and our ability to give our opinion about what we have read/watched/heard. This means you have to decide what you think and justify it with examples, comparisons (eg similes and metaphors) and facts.

For homework

  • Watch “planet earth” on BBC iplayer or on BBC1 on Sunday night at 8pm. Take notes about one animal which you think is the most interesting. Create a persuasive argument about why that animal is the most interesting.
  • We are exploring –ist words (words related to what what someone/something does). Create at least 6 word scrambles for a partner to unscramble.

Maths

We are learning about debit and credit cards. We are exploring the difference between money we already have and money we are borrowing (and the costs associated with the borrowing).

For homework

  • Design your own credit card – make sure you include the interest rate, how long the “interest free” period is, any rewards and what the penalty is if you pay it back late.
    • If you want to play a game with money and percentages, try this http://www.mrcrammond.com/games/percentages.swf
  • Continue to practice your money skills on these games
  • Design a special offer for the following items
    • A bike worth £399
    • A car worth £9,500
    • A box of tea worth £2.59

Today we were learning about Credit Cards! we explored the different types of credit cards, the terms and conditions, the rewards available and the penalties if you don’t repay the money.

We also planned the prices for our class shop. We are setting up the shop tomorrow and are going to be keeping a record of our spending in a bank statement.

Finally, we wrote persuasive letters to Tesco to help persuade them to involve us in the “bags of help” grant in the Town center to get up to £5,000 for outdoor learning equipment.
