We are also working at persuasive writing and we are also planning to interview local business people about their work.
Write a letter to someone who runs a business or a local business in Cumbernauld to persuade them to come and talk to us about their business.
Ask lots of questions about how they run their business, using who, what, why, how questions. Also tell them a compliment about their business and tell them that you are enthusiastic about learning about it. Put the schools address on the letter.

Maths
We are learning about bank statements and creating a balance sheet. Make a bank statement for the following people
- (easier) Steven gets paid £10 on Monday. He spends £1 on the bus home. Then he buys a can of coke for 50p. On the bus he finds a £5 note! On Tuesday he spends £2.50 on his lunch and another £1 on the bus. He also buys a newspaper for 40p. On Wednesday he doesn’t spend any money! On Thursday he goes out for lunch to McDonald’s and spends £4. On Friday he spends another £1 on the bus. What is his balance on Friday? How much did he spend in total?
- (harder) Maggie starts on -£30 because she overspent last month. She earns £1,600 and also gets a refund from Topshop for £50. She spends £65 in Tesco and another £48 on petrol. On Tuesday she takes her mum out for dinner which costs £52 and she also pays £8 for a taxi home. On Wednesday she buys a new pair of trainers for £81 and a hoodie for £6. Her rent is £300 and comes out of her account on Thursday. Her heating bills also cost £33 and her netflix is £5.50. What is her balance on Friday? How much has she spent in total?
here is an example statement
Rights
We have been discussing which rights are important to us in our home for example Article 16 – you have the right to privacy or Article 24 – you have the right to nutritious food.
Draw a picture and write about the most important rights in your house and what they look like.
