S1 Visit to Stepps Primary

Five of our S1 girls are going to be going to Stepps Primary to speak to P6 and P7.

The girls will be speaking to them about  coming to High School and asking them questions about what they’re looking forward to when they are at High School.

They have also made up some fun activities and games for them to do.  For example, they will give the pupils the chance to write their own timetables, write any questions they want to ask and lots more.

They also decided that they are going to show them their timetable to let them see what a real timetable looks like.

The girls are really excited about sharing their experiences of first year with the pupils and hope that the primary pupils will learn more and feel better about coming to Chryston High School.

Voltage wins Battle of the Bands

On Wednesday 18th January Chryston High School’s own band Voltage competed in Battle of the Bands.  We are proud to say that they played outstandingly well and took first place. We interviewed Ryan Bradley and Liam Lau who are part of the band.

We firstly asked Ryan a couple of questions.

“Ryan how long have you and the band been competing in battle of the bands?”

Ryan answered “We have been competing in battle of the bands for four years now and we were very happy when we won.”

We also asked “Were you nervous?” He replied “Well, since we have been doing it for four years now so we weren’t too nervous”

We asked Ryan if in their opinion, any other band was strong competition.  He said, “Yes, we thought every band did well but Cardinal Newman who came second, were very good and it was very close between us.  When we came off stage, I thought we had played very well and was really pleased with our performance.  I thought we had a good chance but I didn’t think we had won.  We played our own song, Defy and a cover of Knights of Cydonia by Muse.”

We also asked Liam a couple of questions. “When did you start to learn the songs you played on the night?” “Well, we made our own song up called Defy and we also played Nights of Cydonia by Muse.” We were curious about who played what and Liam replied “Ryan plays Drums, Liam plays Keyboard, Lauren plays Guitar and Fraser plays Bass Guitar” We also asked if they he had known the other band member for long.  He told us that he hadn’t known Lauren for long but now she was like a best friend to him.

Congratulations to Voltage.  We are all very proud of you.

Post-Match Interview with Lewis Pollock

Chryston High VS Our Ladies

I thought I played well but still  could have done a bit better.

My favourite player is James Denham who plays centre back for us. I thought James was the best defender and cleared the lines.

I’m pleased we won this match.  I think we can start to win more matches if we just talk more.

My favourite player in the world is Lionel Messi.

Chryston High vs Our Lady’s High

On the 6th of November Chryston S1 team travelled to Cumbernauld to play a very skilful Our Lady’s S1 team. The Cumbernauld boys were great communicators and have clearly played as a team before. Chryston suffered a heavy defeat but we didn’t take it too hard. We are still focused on the next game on Wednesday tonight.

This event was the culmination of weeks of learning across the different departments in the school. In PE, the pupils  spent time developing their fitness and learning the skills required to successfully complete the Orienteering competition course. In Home Economics, pupils learned about sports nutrition, preparing Flapjacks to eat before the event to provide energy, and soup and a roll to refuel after the event. Our young people brushed up on their map reading skills in Geography so that they could successfully negotiate the entire grounds of the park.

Despite a couple of heavy showers, a good morning of outdoor learning was enjoyed by everyone with all S1 pupils gaining either their Gold, Silver or Bronze National Navigation Award.

Barry Hutchison Visit

S1 pupils from Chryston High enjoyed a visit from Scottish Award winning Author Barry Hutchison on Thursday 9th June. Barry was in the school to promote his new book series ‘Beaky Malone: The World’s Greatest Liar.’ and to talk to pupils about what inspired him to be an author. A selected group of pupils also had the chance to take part in a creative writing workshop with Barry in the School Library. All pupils thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to engage with Barry and listening to his funny stories from his childhood.
