In Broad General Education Science at Lourdes we aim to deliver a course that, as well as building upon Scientific Knowledge & Understanding and practical Scientific Skills, will develop learners:
- Scientific Curiosity and Wonder
- Scientific Morals and Ethics
- Application of Scientific Knowledge
S1
In S1 Science learners will study 6 topics in total:
Term 1: Cracking the Code, Essential Energy & Meaningful Matter Term 2: Brilliant Bodies, Fantastic Forces & Smashing Substances
At the end of each term pupils will sit two assessments – a Science skills assessment and a Science knowledge assessment. Pupils will complete a weekly Science diary as part of their homework.
S2
Building upon the knowledge and skills developed in S1 pupils will study a further 6 topics in S2:
Term 1: Beautiful Biodiversity, Crazy Chemical Reactions & Exciting Electricity
Term 2: Beautiful Biodiversity, Crazy Chemical Reactions & Exciting Electricity
At the end of each term pupils will sit two assessments – a Science skills assessment and a Science knowledge assessment. Pupils will complete a weekly Science diary as part of their homework.
S3
Building upon the knowledge and skills developed in S2, and in preparation for starting the Nationals in S4, pupils will study a further 6 topics in S3:
Term 1: Atoms to Ions, Cells, Enzymes and Microorganisms & Waves
Term 2: Metals, Life Science, & Forces and Space
At the end of each topic pupils will completed a combined skills and knowledge assessment. The assessment data from S1-S3 will be used by Science staff and Pastoral Care to recommend Science(s) and Level(s) that a pupil may choose to study in S4.
