Carousel
Pupils will develop playing skills on keyboard, drum kit, ukulele, glockenspiel and guitar. Focus will be on key skills of FOCUS, DISCIPLINE and INDIVIDUALISED LEARNING. Pupils will also learn about music literacy, understanding how to read music and how to APPLY this when playing.
Units
Pupils will study three units, Pop Music, Scottish Music and Film Music. In each unit there will be an opportunity to work creatively using Garageband during Pop Music and working with acoustic instruments to create a sound foley during Film Music.
S2
Pupils will have decided on their choice of two instruments and will be working on a differentiated programme of music to develop their skills, suitable to their ability and allow for natural progression.
Unit work
Pupils will study three units, Slave trade – 40’s American music, World Music and Musicals and Opera. In these units pupils will have the opportunity to work creatively to create their own 12 bar blues improvisation and work with Garageband to compose their own Reggae piece.
S3
Practical work
Pupils will continue working on a differentiated programme of music for their chosen two instruments. They will have opportunities for solo and group performing and will develop their skills, suitable to their ability and allow for natural progression.
Unit work
Pupils will study two main units: Programme Music – encompassing the Orchestra, Musical Ensembles, Film Music and basic Melody and Harmony concepts; and Pop Music linked to Cultural Influences. In both units pupils will have the opportunity to compose using instruments and music technology
