Parents and carers play a vital role in their child’s education. In recognition of this, the Scottish Schools (Parental Involvement) Act 2006, both encourages and supports parents, working in partnership with the school, to be involved in their child’s education. The main aims of the act are quite simple:
- To help parents become more involved with their child’s education and learning
- To welcome ALL parents as active participants in the life of the school and provide easier ways for ALL to express their views and wishes.
Lourdes Secondary has an active Parent Council with a core group of around 12 parents who meet regularly. Meetings are informal and encourage good debate with the focus on keeping parents informed, sharing of ideas, developments and concerns between parents and school.
It is critical that all parents have the opportunity to come along (whilst some may wish to simply listen, obtain information or others may wish to be actively involved) and ensure that all parents have a forum.
Most importantly we hope that parents realise this meeting is open to all parents. This allows the Parent Council to fully represent the views of the children and parents.
If you wish to contact the Parent Council please do so at lourdesparentspc@yahoo.co.uk.
Please note that the PC will not become involved in any individual complaint. We are here to represent the views of all parents on school issues.
