The two Lourdes Secondary Young Ambassadors, Shonagh McGregor and Dominic Quail (S6) attended a conference on 27th September at the new Glasgow Commonwealth Games Velodrome. This was a fantastic event which allowed the Ambassadors the chance to have a guided tour around the venue, which had not officially been opened to the public.
The Ambassadors had the opportunity to have a day of mentoring from past Olympian, Paralympian, Commonwealth Games and World Champion Athletes, including Steve Frew and Craig Heap…The Ambassadors also met London 2012 Olympian and bronze medal winner, GB hockey player Emily Maguire. Emily made an inspirational speech about her passion for sport and spoke of her experiences of the London 2012 Games. During their meeting, Emily very kindly allowed them to hold her medal and pose for photos with it.
Natalie Still, who was one of the torch bearers for London 2012, also spoke of her passion and commitment for sport and how that allowed her to be nominated to become a torch bearer. She spoke of her experience of The Games and allowed the Young Ambassadors to pose for photos with the torch.
This was a fantastic event that has inspired our Young Ambassadors to plan for many future sporting activities with in the school.
With the run up to The Glasgow Commonwealth Games and with the bid to make Glasgow the host for the 2018 Youth Olympics, we expect to see our Young Ambassadors very busy.
