The Stars class enjoyed World Book Day with lots of activities. We were effective contributors and made shortbread men alongside the story, ‘The Gingerbread Man’. Some of us were confident individuals as we dressed up on World Book Day and enjoyed the story, ‘The Old Toy Room’. We made story masks and explored a selection of old fashioned toys. We made a cup and ball game and enjoyed books we had brought in to share.

World Book Day Successful Learners

Apologies there is an issue affecting the upload of pictures. The Transition Boys had a wonderful time on Word Book Day. We had a couple of new faces in class. Ali Baba and The Boy in the Dress came for the day! The boys were really focussed as we read excerpts from each book. Some boys did a short study on David Walliams and some designed new characters. Everyone successfully made masks based on their favourite book.

World Book Day

We haven’t just celebrated books on one day but all week. We all really enjoy experiencing and reading the “That’s not my ….” books, so on Monday we collected all the books we had along with different materials and read them together. We touched the different materials then used to create capes and headbands.

On Wednesday we had lots of fun participating in activities around “Goldilocks and the three bears”. We had a large tuff tray full on oats and were confident individuals exploring the oats finding the images underneath and scooping it up into the different bowls. We played with bears deciding who was mummy bear, daddy bear and baby bear. We watched the story on the board and enjoyed playing with the puppets alongside.

Today is the big day World Book Day. Today we are focussing on the book Snow White and seven dwarfs. Miss Hill even dressed up as Snow White. During our morning group we read parts of the story. For cookery we made rice krispie treats made the read and moulded them to look like apples. We decorated out own mirror design and added tin foil to the middle so well all have our own magic mirror and explored the Snow White inspired tuff tray in the afternoon.

Once Upon A Time

We all had great fun celebrating World Book Day, we brought in our favourite stories from home to share with our friends.  We also read the ‘Wizard of Oz’ together and we were all effective contributors to the story.  We had our role play masks and had to act out our part of the story whilst it was being told.

We then took part in some activities related to our story, we were blindfolded and had to try give the Tin man a heart.  We used our super soakers to get the Wicked Witch of the West, she doesn’t like water! We also had to help feed our dog Toto as he was so hungry after his adventure.

After this we took in turns to share our favourite books with our friends in class.  To conclude the day, Aladdin found his beautiful princess, Jasmine and they all lived happily ever after.

WBD – Author visit

We had a special visitor come into school today. Greta Yorke and her friend Moira came to Willowbank today to read Greta’s book “The Tartan Witch”. The whole school got to listen to Greta and Moira tell the story about the tartan witch. Greta had also organised some lovely activities related to the book for the children to do after listening to the story. The activities were : exploration of the characters from the book, creating our own tartan using special wooden blocks with different lines on them, a matching game and a potion station. Everyone really enjoyed listening to the story and were effective contributors when engaging with the activities.

World Book Day

World Book Day this week! The Oak boys were all confident individuals when choosing their reading book and reading it to an adult.  They completed a book review to share their opinion on their story.

Angus has been making great progress and coming to join his friends for quite a few activities this week.  He loves to sing ‘Shotgun’ and ‘Flower of Scotland’.

We also were successful learners working on telling the time in analogue and digital format.  The boys played a time game with a partner, ‘Roll and Tell the Time.’ The first person to complete a straight line had to shout ‘BINGO’.

Every class went to great efforts to dress up in their favourite character or come in their PJs for a bedtime story.

Our WINNERS for World Book Day!

This is the first time the whole Oak class have all sat together around the snack table! It has been a great week in the Oak class!

We read ‘The Lion Inside’ and then had fun creating a our Lion art work.
