More home learning and Diggidabble week

Hi everybody,

I hope you liked your little rabbit and enjoyed using the stickers. This week the ladies have been extra busy thinking of fun activities for you to do with your family.

Activity 1 – literacy

Put a picture on a plate the cover it with salt. You can then use your finger or paintbrush to write out some letters, draw a picture of just to reveal the picture underneath. Have fun. You may want to put your plate on a tray to minimise spillages.

Activity 2 – expressive arts

Shadow art – we put cling film over a toilet roll or kitchen roll tube and stuck a sticker or made a design to stick on the end. We then used a torch to shine light through the tube and create a shadow image on the wall of the sticker or design.

Activity 3 – science

Tornado in a jar – We made a tornado in a jar. Watch the video to find out what you need and how to do it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XF9v-t9AZIU&feature=youtu.be

Activity 4 – numeracy

Colour hunt – all the ladies went hunting around their house for a specific colour. Check out the video to see some of the pictures.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWxFGg1ncWU&feature=youtu.be

It would also have been Diggidabble week in school this week so here a few activities related to digital learning you can do at home.

Use a phone to take a selfie of yourself or you and your family.

Use your tablet or iPad. What apps do you like to use? Do you have a favourite game to play? Let us know in the comments below.

Make a facetime call or skype call with a family member to stay in touch.

Oak Weekly Challenges

We hope you have great week and enjoy the sunshine after a miserable weekend. Below we have included some activities that we hope you have fun trying out. There is no pressure to complete, however if you do we would love to see your photos.

Literacy –

This week your challenge is to take food orders for your family.  Use your writing and communication skills and also don’t forget your signs.

  1. Can your write down the food item they would like?
  2.  Can you ask them ‘What do you want to eat?’
  3.  Can you ask them ‘Would you like a drink?’

Numeracy –

Can you identify all the coins up to the value of £2. Get a cupcake tin and ask an adult to write the coin value.  From a selection of coin in a bowl, can you read the price tag, or listen to the price and identify the correct coin.

Cooking –

Let’s make chocolate brownies, a video has been made so click here to view the video and find out how to make them.

Art –

On your daily walk can you keep an eye out for stones.  A variety of sizes will be ideal as you are going to paint and use them as decorations for your garden.  If you have acrylic paint and clear lacquer this will be perfect to keep your design looking good and make them weatherproof.  Below is an idea but get creative and design your stones in any way you like.

The Oak class has a great artist, Miss Miller has created this lovely picture to represent all the classes that make up our school. Have an attempt at making your own Willow tree drawing. We look forward to seeing them and sharing with them with everyone.

Topic Work –

On your daily walk can you see how many signs you can identify. You could take a picture with an adult’s phone.  Then at home you can make a poster of all the signs you seen in your local community.  Can you tell everyone in your family what the sign says / means?

Music –

Get your family singing and signing along to this song, click here.  Feel free to send us any videos of you having a family sing a long. Click here for the link to Singing Hands video ‘Best Day of My Life’.

Life Skills –

These week your focus is to load / empty the dishwasher. Wash / dry the dishes in the sink. Do you know where everything goes? Where does the cutlery go? What about the plates?

Class Pet – Butterflies

I have fantastic news to share with you all, our five caterpillars have now grown into five beautiful butterflies! It is almost time to release them and let them fly free.  Mrs Murray is going to be very sad as she has loved looking after them!  Click here to see what they have been eating to help get strong and prepare them for moving on.

Have a great week Oak team! Continue with all your hard work, everyone is doing so well and we miss you greatly! Stay safe

Weekly home learning activities

Hi everyone, Hope you are well.

I hope you enjoyed the activities last week and helped out at home doing some different jobs.  This week we have lots more fun activities for you to try.

Activity 1 – Music

We love exploring different musical instruments in class. Do you have any instruments at home? Explore the different noises they make. Don’t worry if you don’t the ladies and I have been very busy making our own instruments. Watch the video to find what materials around the house we used to make our own musical instrument.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VjnvBoKWmy4&feature=youtu.be

Activity 2 – Numeracy

Numbers are everywhere in our environment in our house and outside. Create you own number scanner by cutting a whole in a bit of paper or card. You can then explore your house or the outdoors on your daily walk having a number hunt. How many different numbers can you see?

Activity 3 – Art

This week I made my own chalk paint to create pictures on my patio. The great thing is you can wash it away with water and create more or wait for the rain to wash it away. Just add a small amount of water to some tablespoons of cornflour then add some food colouring and mix. Then use a paintbrush to draw your pictures outside. The possibilities are endless.

Activity 4 – Health and wellbeing

The ladies and I had lots of fun creating a bowling game in our garden. Watch the video. 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PUETPPnWYqo&feature=youtu.be

You can create your own it can be indoors or outdoors. You can make it with anything bottles, cans etc and then use a ball or an orange to see how many you can knock down. Play as a family and see who can knock the most down.

Activity 5 – Health and wellbeing

This week we decided to work on spreading skills. You can make a meal all your family will enjoy – a pizza 🙂 Mrs Russell had fun making pizzas with wrap for her lunch. Mrs Adair didn’t quite have the ingredients so she improved and made a dessert option. She spread chocolate spread on a pancake and the used other ingredients to create a face – she is very creative.

Weekly Oak Activities

Hi everyone, we hope you are all well! Let’s find out what activities we have for this week.

Literacy:

What do I need? Partner, paper and pencil.

Choose someone in the house to play a game of ‘I Spy’ with you. Write down the letter of the item you are trying to guess.  Once you have guessed it correctly, ask an adult to spell it out for you and practice your handwriting.

Numeracy

What do I need? Paper and pens

Ask an adult to help you with this task, the adult needs to hide one of your favourite toys.  The adult needs to make a directional map using arrows for you to follow to find your toy. (for example: start forward 10 steps, turn right, forward 2 steps, turn left, forward 3 steps, etc until you reach the finish position).

Cooking –   Lunchtime meals

This week try and be a confident individual and try and make your own lunch.

Mr Robertson enjoyed a sandwich and Miss Miller had some soup for her lunch.  What will you have?

Below are some links to our YouTube channel for a video on how to make a sandwich or a toastie for lunch.

Ham & Cheese Toastie

Class Pet:

Our caterpillars are safely within their cocoons now, Mrs Murray transferred them into their butterfly house.  This was a lot of responsibility and Mrs Murray was nervous as she didn’t want to harm any of them. Hopefully by next week we may have some butterflies.

Watch the video on youtube – Insect Lore Butterfly Garden Instructions. Click here

Music:

This week can you all sing and sign the song ‘Better Place’ by singing hands.  You will find this video on YouTube, click here

Life Skills:

This week can you look out your clean clothes for each day. Have a chat with an adult about what clothes you need to put on.  Make sure you put your dirty clothes in the laundry basket before going to bed at night.

Art:

Keeping with our Rainbow theme for this Lockdown, make another Lockdown keepsake for you and your family. Click here to watch a video

Make a rainbow handprint of all your family and paint it once it is dry.  Here is what you need for your salt dough recipe;

250g plain flour (if you are lucky enough to have flour)

125g table salt

125ml water

Once you have created your salt dough handprint before baking in the oven, put a BBQ skewer into the bottom of the hand as this will help you to display your family handprints in an upright position. Also cut out the handprint before putting in the oven.

Have fun this week and remember stay home and stay safe.  We are all missing you! Glad to hear you are all doing great at home, proud of you and keep it up!
